Second Life Destinations

Winter Flakes sits on a homestead region held by Caledonia Dreamscape. Like many regions at this time of the year, it presents a winter setting, and while – I believe – it is also the home for Caledonia and her partner, Trix Congrego, they’ve opened it up for visitors to enjoy.

“[It’s] a combination of Scottish and Danish winters,” Caledonia says of the region. “We first started Winter Flakes  as we both love winter. Four years on and we are still here;  I think it’s a winter love!”

Golden Sunshine contrasts with snow drifts and twinkling lights at European Costa Blanco on Christmas Day. I particularly like the way the rocky mountain outposts and stone building textures compliment each other in an organic design. I highly recommend a visit.

Back in October, I blogged about a fabulous haunted house and spooky cave designed by the talented DarkDharma Daguerre. I was delighted to find that she has also created an incredibly detailed North Pole Village & Santa's Workshop in the Snowlands of Sansara. According to DarkDharma, "This first existed back in 2006-2008 as a much smaller Santa's Workshop with no village. Then, in 2009, the land in Porvoo was purchased where the build became the North Pole Village & Santa's Workshop. Due to my ever-present desire to improve on things, the build has always gotten bigger and better every year! I have been honored to be featured in Linden Lab's Destination Guide for the past few years."

Endspurt für meine Wintertour 2016. Im Bestreben, auch mal etwas Abwechslung in meine vorgestellten Regionen zu bringen, habe ich mich heute für den Ballermann unter den SL-Winterregionen entschieden. Das "Winter Ice Christmas Festival 2016" wurde von den Betreibern des Labels "Rebel Yell Concerts" gestaltet, die in Second Life vor allem Tribute Shows durchführen. Ihre alljährliche Winterregion zur Weihnachtszeit, hat inzwischen auch schon eine kleine Tradition.
Erstaunlicherweise ist es auf der Winter Ice Christmas Region immer voll. Ich habe eigentlich selten weniger als 20 Avatare auf der Karte gesehen. Bei meinem Besuch waren es im Schnitt 30 Avatare. Das mag zum Teil auch daran liegen, dass alle Häuser gemietet werden können, die auf meinem ersten Foto zu sehen sind.

“Magic and Mystery await around every corner,” Joonie Jatho says of her Homestead region, itself called Magical Mystery. “Come explore and see if you can find all the enchanted, secret places!”

It’s an enticing invitation, and one well worth taking the time to accept. Designed on Joonie’s behalf by the combined talents of Kaelyn Alecto (responsible for  It All Starts With a Smile (which I last visited here), LuaneMeo (who designed Luane’s World – see here – with Kaelyn, and most recently opened Luane’s Magic World – see here), and Gorba McMahon, Magical Mystery presents visitors with a lot to see and discover.

Nach zwei Tagen mit etwas matschigen Schneetipps, gibt es heute mit der Region "Winter Drift" wieder einmal das reine Weiß des Winters. Der fest eingestellte Landepunkt ist in einem Haus. Deshalb bin ich einfach mal davon ausgegangen, dass alle Häuser auf der Region für Besucher frei zugänglich sind. Und da die Häuser fast alle üppig eingerichtet wurden, habe ich auch einige Fotos darin gemacht. Von meinen zehn Bildern hier im Beitrag, sind drei mit einer Szene aus einem der Häuser. Hier gleich das vom Landepunkt.

Ownerin von "Winter Drift" ist Mistie Yootz, die sich den etwas schwerfälligen Displaynamen Mistie Xubersnak-Neox Pierce gegeben hat. In einer Info von Annie Brightstar habe ich auch gelesen, dass die Region am 21. November 2016 geöffnet wurde und am 3. Januar 2017 schon wieder schließt. Also wer sie sehen will, sollte in den nächsten elf Tagen dort vorbeischauen.

Another favorite region where I like to hang out in this season is Rebel Yell Concerts. It is jam packed with beautiful scenery, activities, and venues to check out.. At the pond there are couples and single skating balls that will make it easy for you to perform stunts while you skate. You can use your own of course if you prefer.  Don’t miss this beautiful winter sim.

The Linden Chalet lies in between two of the longest delightful chairlift rides you can take anywhere in Second Life. One lift I  began in Voss and landed at the top of the mountain in Kamin passing over Bydalin. It is a long steep mountain on the way down also and I landed back by the skilift in Voss. Fortunately I was wearing my skiis from Rebel Yell so I switched over to cross country skiing and made my way back to the lodge for a warming up rest by the fire.

Erstellt wurde "Magical Mystery" von drei Landschaftsdesignern. Und wenn ich die Land-Info richtig verstanden habe, im Auftrag von Joonie Jatho. Die drei Designer sind Kaelyn Alecto, LuaneMeo und Gorba McMahon. Vor allem Kaelyn hat ja im Herbst mit ihrer eigenen Region "It All Starts With A Smile" eine gelungene Landschaft geschaffen, die viel Aufmerksamkeit erregte. Vielleicht schaue ich mir dort auch noch den Winter während meiner Tour an.

Notecards oder Infoschilder habe ich auf "Magical Mystery" nicht entdeckt. Die einzige weitere Info von Joonie Jatho ist, dass man die Region erkunden soll, um alle verzauberten, geheimen Plätze zu finden. Und wer möchte, erhält durch einen Beitritt in die Landgruppe die Rez-Rechte auf der Region. Das mit den Rez-Rechten ist jedoch recht begrenzt, denn Joonie hat das neue Primlimit, bis auf wenige freie Prims, bereits voll ausgenutzt.

The landmark will drop you onto the skating rink, with a teleporter nearby to other areas of the sim. As you skate, watch for a fox bounding across the ice, and a squirrel running up the pole to a bird feeder. The skate animations are a little different than some I have seen.

Inspired by the 1985 children’s classic, The Polar Express, written and illustrated by Chris Van Allsburg, the DRD Arctic Express, built by sisters Jaimy Hancroft and Eowyn Swords, is currently being showcased in its own region for the holiday season. As the region is a venue for the Lab’s Jolly Holiday Crawl, and DRD is the subject of segment #42 of the Drax Files World Makers; (see my review here), Caitlyn and I took time out on a Friday afternoon to pay it a visit.

The express sits to one side of a snow-bound landscape under an overcast sky, patiently awaiting passengers to climb the steps and board the carriages. Those who do will find there’s considerable comfort to be had within. For example, the First Class saloon located immediately behind the engine and its tender, provides soft sofas and armchairs in which to relax, with decorated Christmas trees offering a seasonal sparkle, while cookies and hot chocolate are on hand to ward off the cold.

One of my favorite regions to visit during the holidays. or actually at any time of year has always been Aero Park .... It has always been a wonderful place for horse back riding. The roads and hills are now covered snow and there is more falling all the time. The skating pond is roomy with skate balls for partners or singles. Of course you can skate on your own or buy some skates there and I did see a free skate box. The park ranger is around helping you find sites to visit by announcing the venues. 

Many picturesque wintery sims are popping up left and right in Second Life, and one that's sure to warm the hearts of many explorers is Fris' Land, created by Charlie Namiboo and Frislanda Ferraris. In summer 2016, the popular sim they had created in partnership with Annabelle Barzane — Frisland (read here) — closed after a great two-year run in which one of the seasonal designs was a snow-covered landscape. Now, for a limited time, that landscape has had a revival of sorts, and previous visitors to Frisland are certain to travel down memory lane at Fris' Land.

Heute gibt es doch noch einmal einen Wintertipp mit einem dunklen Windlight. Aber es ist nicht ganz so dunkel, wie zum Beispiel auf "It all starts with a smile", sondern man kann den Schnee schon als solchen identifizieren. Ausgesucht habe ich eine Region, die mir im vergangenen Sommer schon sehr gefallen hat und zu der ich hier einen Simtipp geschrieben hatte. Es ist die Region "Neverfar".

Neverfar ist immer noch auf einer Homestead untergebracht, allerdings hat Ownerin Caridee Sparta nun den neuen Land Impact von 5.000 Prims voll ausgenutzt. Landschaftlich ist Neverfar etwa zur Hälfte noch so, wie es im Sommer gestaltet war, die andere Hälfte wurde geändert. Das betrifft sowohl das Terraforming als auch neue Gebäude und mehr Einrichtung bzw. Dekoration. Und natürlich liegt dort jetzt auch Schnee.

Designer Silvermoon Fairey didn't stop after creating one stellar winter location — December Will Be Magic Again (read here from several days ago) — she also created 50 Words for Snow, located in the sky above her lovely sim A Painter's Link. In contrast to the essentially flat landscape of December Will Be Magic Again, 50 Words for Snow is a hillier location that offers several distinct but interrelated scenes.

Laura Liberty’s Christmas Town has had this big blue skating castle for several years. I never get tired of it. Skate balls give you a ride through the castle, with scenes from  movies, and TV.

"The Fallen" ist laut Land-Info ein Ort, der sich permanent ändert, der alle Besucher willkommen heißt und der erkundet werden will. Außerdem steht dort auch noch, dass es bald eine Hunt und weitere Events auf der Region geben soll.

Die Region ist ein Fullprim Sim, auf dem bereits mehr als 15.000 Prims verbaut wurden. Der größte Teil davon steckt in einer Stadt, die weit über die Hälfte der Region abdeckt. Die Stadt besteht fast vollständig aus den Gebäuden von Death Row Designs (DRD), die ja in der letzten World Makers Episode vorgestellt wurden. Für eine Gesamtaufnahme habe ich die Trübungsstärke mal verringert und die Aurora über dem Sim ausgeblendet.

Die Region "TaKe Heart" wurde erst vor einigen Tagen auf Winter umgestellt. Zuvor war die Landschaft aber auch schon recht beliebt, denn ich hatte bereits im Sommer auf Flickr viele Fotos von dort gesehen.  Eine einheitliche Landschaft gibt es auf "TaKe Heart" nicht. Es sind unterschiedliche Bereiche und Szenen, die wohl hauptsächlich als Motive für Fotos gedacht sind. Ebenso ist auch nicht alles richtig winterlich. Es gibt eine Reihe grüner Tannenbäume und eines der verwendeten Gräser hat auch einen leichten Grünton.

Mit Rosemoor habe ich mir heute eine Region herausgesucht, die ich bereits im Sommer dieses Jahres hier vorgestellt hatte. Damals war die Region eine der meist fotografierten in SL. Das ist bei der aktuelle Winterlandschaft nicht der Fall, wobei das nicht daran liegt, dass die Region keine Ausstrahlung hat. Aber bei den vielen gute Wintersims, ragt sie eben von der Gestaltung auch nicht besonders heraus.

Det är nog inte så många som undrar var dagens helt oprocessade adventluckebild är tagen med tanke på hur många andra bloggare som redan hittat till Arctic Express @ Moonlight Sonata och att destinationen dessutom finns i programmet för årets famösa snöbollskrig Lindens Vs Residents. Heute stelle ich noch einmal eine Region vor, auf der man sich ein Haus mieten kann. Vermutlich aber nur für die Wintermonate, denn die Region heißt aktuell "Winter Wonderland Village". Besser bekannt ist jedoch deren Name im SL-Grid, der "Twilight Moon" laute

In der Mitte der Region, gibt es einen vereisten See, auf dem man Schlittschuhlaufen kann. Die Schuhe muss man allerdings selbst mitbringen, denn ich habe keinen Rezzer oder Vendor gesehen. Man kann auch einfach nur dem kleinen Prim-Avatar Kind zusehen, das auf dem Eis ein paar Runden dreht. Die Bäume, die Beleuchtung und die Dekoration um diesen See herum, haben mir gefallen.
