I was drawn to Tatakai Tochi for two reasons. The first is that it features the work of Shen Molinaro. The second is that it offers an oriental theme, something guaranteed to attract my attention much like a moth to a flame:) . A homestead region held by Regina Mills, (heatherfury) Takakai Tochi literally means “land of flight”. In keeping with this name, it presents visitors with rugged highlands pushing their way into a misty sky, an early morning sun just edging over the highest peaks. Sitting atop the shoulders of several of this craggy hills are flat-topped plateaus occupied by traditional Japanese houses and buildings which overlook the deep slices of the valleys and gorges dividing up the land.

Shen Molinaro, designer of the recently blogged Suomi, has just completed a new sim, Tatakai Tochi (meaning Fight Land in Japanese), owned by Regina Mills (HeatherFury). The result is a stunning region that evokes the mountainous lands of rural Japan, with tremendous opportunities for photography.
Visitors arrive near the top of the rugged landscape, which hosts several small buildings and looks down through swirling flower petals and clouds to the land and seascape below. There is a way down: look for the windmill, and take the zigzag path nearby down to the ocean's edge, there following the wooden walkway that hugs the stones until reaching the valley floor. Here, a delightful display of floating lanterns awaits, and explorers can take a couple of different stone paths to continue their journeys. The lowland interior of the sim, often dotted with shrines or places of reflection, is filled with pastel trees in bloom, thick bamboo, and gently winding streams fed by high waterfalls.

The Guide entry describes it as, “a land rich in history, folklore, and natural wonders”, in which visitors are invited to “explore vast forests, long waterways and pristine, frozen wilderness as you chance to stumble upon various interactive and immersive elements meant to educate and inspire

Created by Shen Molinaro and Sighvatr Sturluson, this is indeed an immersive, frozen wilderness. Snow lies deep on the ground, ice sheaths the water channels in many places, and almost the entire landscape sits beneath the boughs of tall fir trees which point to midnight sky around which an auroral display ebbs and flows.

Tatakai Tochi, which means Flight Land in Japanese, is a lush and atmospheric sim by designer Shen Molinaro, is evocative of the forests and lakes of the mountain regions of Japan. Mountains. Shen has also designed Suomi, one of the most admired and heralded sims in 2016. Suomi, which means Finland in the Finnish language, is an evocative landscape of tall pines, clear lakes, and Northern Lights contrasts well with Tatakai Tochi. Instead of cold mountain streams and winter atmospherics, Tatakia Tochi celebrates Spring with forests of flowering Sakura trees, bamboo groves, and clear running waterfalls. The landscape here is unexpected and a pleasure to walk and discover. I highly recommend a visit here, and to Suomi if you have not yet visited.

There is something serenely majestic about the sim Suomi, and it's apparent from the moment one arrives that it's a special place. Designed by Shen Molinaro, the region includes mythological and cultural information from Sighvatr Sturluson (Worthaboutapig resident, also the sim owner) — the two having collaborated on the sim's concept — with additional contributions from Sati (Satyamalaak), Skaði Sturluson (Edenjane765), and Èirã Sturlson (Dahlia Endsleigh).
