Interesting study done by trauma surgeons and other medical experts that deal with patients who are the victims of pedestrian accidents and bicycle collisions in New York City.  The study found some interesting common characteristics of these types of mishaps including the following:

1. Most pedestrian accidents happen while the walker is in the crosswalk and has a signal to pass;
2. Most bicyclists are injured by cab drivers who compete for "curb space" along the right hand edge of the street;
3. Many accidents involve the use of mobile devices like cell phones and media players.

As a Los Angeles pedestrian accident lawyer and bicycle collision attorney, I see a lot of these same scenarios in the urban areas of the City of Angels.  I think more studies like this should be done to assist urban planners and traffic safety officials.
