China’s modernisation success is driven by the remarkable progress in its agricultural sector, even given the challenges. Small farms have experienced new inputs and adopted new technologies such as mechanical operation,
with more functioning of factor markets and the emergence of cooperative and custom services. However, with the aim of becoming a modern nation with an innovation-based and sustainable agricultural economy, it is important to improve understanding of the nature and perspectives of labourers, especially the younger generation.
