The latest World Bank attempt to begin ranking countries on the basis of their ability to offer business opportunities within the agricultural sector has raised serious concerns regarding food security and broader impacts on the livelihoods of poor farmers across the developing world.

Dans le cadre de la campagne internationale "Our land our business", les ONG belges SOS Faim, AEFJN, Fian, CADTM, CNCD-11.11.11 et Elf Elf Elf ont organisé une action vendredi, devant la tour des finances de Bruxelles, pour dénoncer les politiques de la Banque mondiale qui favorise l'agrobusiness.

‘You don’t understand!’ was World Bank’s Grahame Dixie’s rebuttal of the accusation that the Bank bears heavy responsibility in the grabbing of land and natural resources by corporations in the developing world. Having heard first-hand testimonies on the tragedy of land grabbing and related human rights violations in Africa, Mr. Dixie insisted that his institution was against land grabs but nevertheless the development of agribusiness in Africa was a necessity to feed a growing population, particularly in urban areas.

Plusieurs ONG belges manifesteront le 10 octobre prochain devant la tour des finances à Bruxelles, pour dire "stop aux stratégies destructrices de la Banque mondiale", en marge de la publication prochaine par la Banque mondiale d'une grille d'analyse, la "Benchmarking the Business of Agriculture -BBA", évaluant les pays "en fonction de la facilité à y faire des affaires en agriculture", annonce SOS Faim.
