How to Track Social Media Metrics on Four Social Networks : Social Media Examiner | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Are your social media marketing efforts working?

Wondering which key performance indicators (KPIs) matter on each platform?

In addition to revenue, there is real value in knowing how many people engage with your social media posts.

In this article, you’ll discover which KPIs to track for Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

Tracking your social media metrics is critical for success. Here's how to monitor Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram.

(From the article): n a study of over 11 million user interactions on social media, Forrester found that businesses had an engagement rate of less than 0.2% across social networks, with Instagram being the exception. In other words, you may have a million followers, but fewer than 2,000 people interact with your posts.

These insights confirm that follower counts are just a vanity metric, and in this age of “always be helping,” you need to look deeper than that and set new KPIs. The first step is to perform a social media audit to find out what’s working and what isn’t. Then you can start setting new objectives.

Ultimately, you want to get to a place where you’re reaching the right people and the right people are engaging with you. That means they’re taking the desired action on your posts.

Tumblr and Pinterest now fastest-growing social platforms

Tumblr and Pinterest now fastest-growing social platforms | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Earlier this year, Instagram was leading the pack as the fastest-growing social platform. Now, it's Tumblr and Pinterest, which have edged out the picture-sharing app for greatest increase in active users.

Tumblr's active users grew by 120% in the last six months, according to new stats released by the Global Web Index first spotted by  TechCrunch on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Facebook's active users grew by just 2%.

Pinterest comes in behind Tumblr with a 111% growth in active users, who are users that say they've actually used the site with some regularity. Earlier this year when GWI released numbers, Instagram was on top but has dropped to third place. Of the top eight, in fact, Facebook is in last place, behind LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube and Google+....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

Even though Facebook maintains its reigning status as the largest social network, it has some quickly growing challengers: Tumblr and Pinterest. Very interesting overview of social media growth.

I find it surprising that Facebook and Instagram are not at the top of growing platforms. However, these platforms can easily be measured so I trust their results.

Amanda Kaye Wall's curator insight, November 28, 2014 1:15 PM

We are all very familiar with Facebook and Twitter, however, two unexpected social media platform are on the rise. Tumblr and Instagram are now the fastest growing social media platforms, why? because the use visuals and audio to engage their audiences.

This article shows which social media platforms that company's should be keeping an eye on and possibly consider when releasing their content on social media. Company's should be updating their social media techniques which in return help them with their brand story telling.

Are Hashtags Dead? Do Tweets with Images Get More Followers? Twitter Growth Factors (and Some Excel Tips)

Are Hashtags Dead? Do Tweets with Images Get More Followers? Twitter Growth Factors (and Some Excel Tips) | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

What factors go into determining how many Twitter followers you gain (and lose) each day? I analyzed thousands of accounts to find the answer.

Key takeaways

  • The types of content you tweet have significant impacts on attracting and keeping followers.
  • Hashtags probably aren't dead.
  • Each tweet that includes an image, has a hashtag, is a retweet, or mentions someone associates with 2-6% more daily followers.
  • Just as it does with Rand, your account will likely have individualized factors that move the needle for you.
  • You can explore these via Excel! Check your Followerwonk account for a complimentary spreadsheet of your Twitter activity.
  • Don't forget to follow me @petebray so that I can test whether this blog post significantly moves my follower count! :) And let me know what you uncover.

Hashtags werden in dem Maße problematisch, in welchem das Hashtag Spamming weiter zunimmt. Insbesondere Instagram ist hier ein Treiber dieser unguten Entwicklung und Crossposting.

Ello: Inside the Social Network That's Stealing Facebook's Lunch

Ello: Inside the Social Network That's Stealing Facebook's Lunch | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

...As it turns out, Ello was founded by entrepreneur iconoclast Paul Budnitz, founder of online retailer Kidrobot and Budnitz Bicycles. Although Ello rolled out just this summer, and is open to new users on an invitation-only basis, the New York Observer's BetaBeat blog reported today that it was experiencing sign-up requests of about 31,000 an hour.

For the past couple of weeks, Facebook has gotten a lot of flack from members of the LGBT community whose pages have been shut down because some, particularly those in the transgender community, use invented or chosen names. Some do this to avoid persecution in their communities, others do it because they are artists and peformers who have reinvented themselves. (We're thinking Ru Paul's Drag Race here.)

Facebook says it insists on real names to prevent fraud and abuse and other types of bad behavior on the network. It's unclear, however, why drag queens and transgender people have been singled out in recent weeks.

In contrast to Facebook, Ello is ad-free, and it has no real name policy. While its look is pretty minimal, Ello's blackened out smiley face logo is somehow reminiscent of the hacker group Anonymous, and it reads quite differently from the innocuous look of Facebook's interface.

Ello's manifesto also tries to burnish its non-mainstream cred. Here's what it says....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

Facebook killer? The new, scrappy Ello is the social network of choice for disaffected users of Facebook. Here's why.
