Color Psychology in Marketing | HubSpot

Color Psychology in Marketing | HubSpot | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

There's a reason companies test the colors of things like advertisements, banner ads, and call-to-action (CTA) buttons. When we did a button color test here at HubSpot, for example, we found that a red CTA button outperformed a green CTA button by 21%.

In other words, we increased conversion rate without changing anything about the page except for the color of the CTA. That's the power of color psychology in marketing.

Let's explore the ways color psychology plays a role in marketing, with a quick vocabulary lesson and a visual guide...

Jeff Domansky's insight:

Color psychology and its role in buyer decision-making are fascinating elements of marketing. But how can such nuance be quantified? Well, look no further as HubSpot answers.

What Every Marketer Should Know About Color Theory

What Every Marketer Should Know About Color Theory | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Color theory is the art and science of colors, our understanding of how colors mix, how people perceive colors, and the message the colors communicate. Are you aware that colors impact how one thinks and behaves? In fact, color ads attract 42 percent more attention than those in black and white. This holds true even outside the realm of social media and into print marketing. Prospects hold on to colored business cards 10 times longer than standard white cards.

Why Is Color Theory Important to Content and Social Media Campaigns?
When a prospect’s eyes meet a particular color, they immediately send a message to the brain. After a nanosecond of processing the information, the individual makes a judgment about what they see. They may be interested, bored, or repulsed.

Great marketers wind up testing multiple visuals to find the best option. However, this can’t begin without an understanding of the benefits of color theory in marketing.

How to Use the Psychology of Color to Increase Website Conversions

How to Use the Psychology of Color to Increase Website Conversions | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Color wields enormous sway over our attitudes and emotions. When our eyes take in a color, they communicate with a region of the brain known as the hypothalamus, which in turn sends a cascade of signals to the pituitary gland, on to the endocrine system, and then to the thyroid glands. The thyroid glands signal the release of hormones, which cause fluctuation in mood, emotion, and resulting behavior.

Research from QuickSprout indicates that 90% of all product assessments have to do with color. “Color,” writes Neil Patel, is “85% of the reason you purchased a specific product.” It’s a no-brainer fact of any website that color affects conversions. Big time.

So, the bottom line is: use the right colors, and you win....

Choosing the Color Palette: Understanding Color - Piktochart

Choosing the Color Palette: Understanding Color - Piktochart | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Color is everywhere. Our mind is engaging with different colors on a consistent basis, and associates them with different things. A study titled Impact of Colors in Marketing describes how researchers found that up to 90% of snap judgments made about products can be based on color alone (depending on the product). But although we are so familiar with colors, there is a large spectrum of uncertainty when it comes to using color for art and design.

When we talk about web or graphic design, color might be the single most important choice. The right color decision is the foundation for a beautiful, engaging and seamless design. However, the wrong color choice can destroy a design, even if everything else is there.

Let’s look at an example. The image below features the exact same infographic – the same content, the same hierarchy, the same positioning of elements....

One of the most fun things to do in design is swirling the latest color trends into your work. Strangely enough, colours have different meanings in different cultures! In India, white used to be the colour worn by widows in mourning, while in the West, black is the colour preferred by those in mourning. On the whole, however, most colours have the same meaning across most cultures. Green might be the symbol for agriculture.

Colors are the heart of any advertisement that decides how successfully it will promote your brand, merchandise or services. The power of color schemes should not to be underestimated. If used creatively, even the simpliest colors can not only boost the ability to advertise but also improve the time a user spends on a website averagely.

For example, some advertisers choose flashy colors to capture the attention of their target audience. Although they may succeed in getting the heads turn in their direction, the audience will lose interest in the long haul.

This eventually ends up damaging brand image and reputation of the business. In this article, we will cover which types of color schemes to avoid in online advertising. I’ve gathered a list of “NOT TOs” along with an alternative methods for you to try....
