'Patient engagement' makes a smart move to help awareness | PATIENT EMPOWERMENT & E-PATIENT | Scoop.it

TECH-SAVVY patients at a Sutton Coldfield hospital are now able to give feedback on their treatment and stay via smartphone.

Heart of England NHS Foundation which runs Good Hope Hospital in Sutton Coldfield Trust has released a new HEFT Patient Feedback app for Apple iPhones and an Android app available via the Google Play store.

The app is free to install and is designed to enable patients to get in touch with the hospital and give their thoughts immediately at the click of a button on visiting an area of the hospital or staying on a ward.

They can rate the ward on their experience, offer their thoughts and suggestions and even get in touch with Trust Board members.

The message, which is anonymous, will be addressed and responded to within 48 hours as part of the hospital's commitment to openness and transparency.

The response will then appear within the app.

Simon Jarvis, head of patient engagement at Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust, said: "We're always looking for ways to improve how we receive feedback because the patient experience really matters to us.

"The app enables us to gather feedback in a way that our patients and families want to give it so we know immediately what we are getting right and what we need to improve to make their time with us the best it can be."

The app also allows you to scan QR codes positioned around the hospital – a special barcode that can be read within the smartphone app – which auto-fills a form for leaving comments, with the relevant location details.

IT also allows for comments on other HEFT sites in Solihull and Heartlands.

The HEFT patient safety app has been entirely created by the Trust's digital media and patient safety teams.

The app is available to download from the Apple App store at: http://bit.ly/IoFdkH and the Google Play store at http://bit.ly/1etAolQ
