A Traumatic Brain Injury can devastate a person’s life with severe physical, emotional, and cognitive deficiencies. It is often abundantly clear when a person is suffering from an injury to the brain. Brain trauma will occasionally be seen on standard imaging studies such as MRI’s or CT scans. Injuries to the brain can result in symptoms such as vomiting, seizures and slurred speech. (List of TBI Symptoms from the Mayo Clinic)
However, TBI’s do not always manifest in obvious ways. Sometimes a person who receives a blow to the head can be diagnosed with a “mild” or “minor” brain injury. It’s common for this type of damage to not be visible on MRIs or CT scans, and symptomatology becomes more difficult to illustrate. These injuries may differ than those caused by severe head trauma, but can be debilitating all the same.
