Connecting everyone to the internet won’t solve the world’s development problems - Stuff

Connecting everyone to the internet won’t solve the world’s development problems - Stuff | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

By 9.30am today I will have skyped Malawi, emailed Ghana, Facebooked Nepal, paid a bill online and used the satnav on my mobile phone.

Megan Colson's curator insight, February 4, 2016 9:42 PM

It is great to know that technology is spreading, even to the less developed countries of the world. Although, this new technology is taking away the few jobs available in L.D.C's.

                                                                   M.C

Lilah Rozar's curator insight, February 5, 2016 8:33 AM

Developement in technology can be a huge plus to those who are well educated and understand how to use it to their advantag. Although those who are classified as 'poor' or living in LDC's tend to be less educated and deal face problems such as cybercrime and privacy violations.

Colleen Geiger's curator insight, February 6, 2016 9:07 PM

I very much agree with not connecting the entire world to the internet, because it wont stop the global problems going around. Usually now the internet is most commonly used by individuals to check social medias and to entertain themselves. Having everyone on the internet will not help the development issues across the world.

Samsung says we can achieve Earth-wide Internet via 4,600 micro-satellites

Samsung says we can achieve Earth-wide Internet via 4,600 micro-satellites | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

Predicting that by 2028, 5 billion Internet users around the world will be collectively chewing through at least 1 zettabyte per month - to put that in perspective, 1 zettabyte is 1,000 exabytes, 1 exabyte is 1,000 petabytes, and 1 petabyte is 1,000 terabytes - the report says we’re going to have to think seriously about how we can deliver that. A constellation of tiny Internet-beaming satellites could be a viable option, it says, and Samsung could be the one to build it.

What Would a World Without Internet Look Like?

What Would a World Without Internet Look Like? | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

Not long ago, browsing the Internet, I happened to stumble on a list titled, "The Best Sci-Fi Books of All Time, According to the Internet."  Like most lists of its kind, it was subjective and far from definitive, but still, it represented an interesting challenge. As someone who reads for pleasure as much as for job security, I decided to finish as many of the titles as I could handle.
