Difference between revisions of "Ethos" - P2P Foundation

Difference between revisions of "Ethos" - P2P Foundation | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

"Ethos operates entrepreneurially for all partners. With few exceptions (such as an urgent need, fixed job description, or partner playing a key role in the admin team), partners are expected to be responsible for their own value exchange and their own financial plans and needs. Cash returns typically involve a progression through the various levels outlined below. As Ethos grows and matures it is our intention to be able to secure more regular, guaranteed and stable cash exchanges with an increasing number of partners. However the philosophy of this progression we hope will hold. It is important to note that our ability to pay partners monthly cash guarantees, dividends and bonuses is worked out at the Ethos level not on a project by project basis. Therefore your cash income cannot be calculated by looking at project incomes although there is inevitably some correlation (e.g. you move up a level when the value you have accrued generates revenue).

Steve Bosserman on Economic Sustainability in a world of Open Design | P2P Foundation

The issue is the following: this free (as in free speech) but also zero dollar approach, centered around common value production, does not have it’s own means of sustainability. And critically, advertising will not be able to fill the enormous gap between the exponential rise in common value production, and the linear monetization of attention through advertising. Also, critically, we do not (as yet, and perhaps never), live in a society which has a clear mechanism for funding common value production.

Las Indias - P2P Foundation

Las Indias - P2P Foundation | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

"October second of this year will be the tenth anniversary of the Sociedad de las Indias Electrónicas, the founding business of the Grupo Cooperativo de las Indias. Even though it only had three members back then — Natalia Fernández, Juan Urrutia, and me — “the Indies,” as it soon became known, was the result of a long evolutionary process in the cyberpunk movement in Spanish. In fact, in 2002, Nat and I refounded Cyberpunk itself as an association in defense of civil rights on the net. We knew that, especially in the beginning, we would need a broad intellectual environment. The objective of the business was never to get rich, but rather to gain autonomy experiencing and living the new possibilities we perceived and theorized about on the network in a new field: the market.
