Scapegoat is an independent journal focusing on the relationship between architecture, landscape architecture, and political economy. A group of eight practicing architects, landscape architects, and graphic designers developed the idea for the publication in 2009, driven by a dissatisfaction with the politics — or lack thereof — in their design fields. In order to reconcile their practice and political beliefs, they created Scapegoat to serve as a venue for affirmative critique, seeking, as they explain, to “avoid a false dichotomy of completely negative criticism, on the one hand, and completely positive boosterism, on the other, to search for and create alternatives to capitalist design practice.”
