Turkey & Twitter: Erdogan, A Networked Authoritarian? | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

How Turkey’s active networked society has created a ‘dictator’s dilemma’ that has seen Erdogan utilise both traditional and modern methods of control, drawing from ‘first, second and third generation’ strategies of communication censorship.

Sources And Methods: The Potential of Social Network Analysis in Intelligence | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

The legality of the National Security Agency’s (NSA’s) use of US citizens’ metadata to identify and track foreign intelligence organizations and their operatives is currently a subject of much debate.  Less well understood (and consequently routinely misreported) are the capabilities and limitations of social network analysis, the methodology often used to evaluate this metadata.

Turkey's Twitter Wars Heat Up

Turkey's Twitter Wars Heat Up | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it
As the Turkish government continues to squeeze freedom of expression, many Turks have found themselves resorting increasingly to social media in order to learn what's going on in their country. Turkey's Twitter Problem, and Our Own - U.S. News & World Report

Turkey's Twitter Problem, and Our Own - U.S. News & World Report | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

"If Twitter, YouTube and Facebook will be honest, if they'll stop being so immoral, stop attacking families, we'll support them.” So says Turkey’s Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan. If one were trying to do comedy about the vilification of the Internets and their corrupting influence, it would be hard to come up with something much better (or more suitable for re-tweeting). Mashable has published acraziest quotes list, but the list is in dire need of updating. Since Turkey’s courts impelled him to lift his ban on Twitter (YouTube and tens of thousands of other sites remain blocked), Erdogan has come up with even better lines.

Turkish PM Erdogan Warns of Facebook, YouTube Shutdown | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

Turkey’s Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan hinted that his government may shut down Facebook and YouTube after March 30 local elections to what he says avert negative effects  of internet on society, a move would likely spark public backlash given the mounting social unrest and uneasiness over government’s growing encroachment on people’s lives and media.
