You asked Chris Anderson anything. Here are the highlights. | Best ...

Yesterday, our curator Chris Anderson took an hour to answer rapid-fire questions in a Reddit AMA, sandwiched between AMAs with Matt Damon and Kevin Smith no less. Redditors asked Chris about everything from his dream speakers to the charge that TED has censored speakers. Below, highlights of the conversation.

Reddit made $8.3 million in ad revenues last year, and will donate 10% | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

The company announced its revenue figures in a blog post Wednesday.
Henry Lee's curator insight, February 19, 2015 9:26 PM

Reddit is a hugely popular forum where users vote on user-generated content links, which can be news, music or pretty much anything. The more votes a particular link gets, the faster it climbs up the Reddit chart, which helps the link reach a broader audience by being more visible at the top of the chart. This is a great way for compelling news to be widely distributed and widely discussed. There are many engaging topics from the controversial (e.g., gun control) to the silly (e.g., funny things my dog does). This might be an easy way for people to get a sense of what public opinion is on a particular topic to help shape/inform their own views.

Amos J Cruz's curator insight, March 8, 2015 11:03 PM

Interesting...Maybe in my age I've become more of a late adopter because despite a good friend's plea for my attention in 2012, I refused to jump on the Reddit bandwagon.  Giving 10% to charity?  I can respect that and maybe give Reddit another go...maybe :)

How Dogecoin Could Lead the World into a Gift Based Economy - I Have Bitcoins

How Dogecoin Could Lead the World into a Gift Based Economy - I Have Bitcoins | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

In a recent blog post on CoinDesk, Brett Scott introduced the idea that cryptocurrencies could have a major impact on the rise of a gift based economy. At the fore of this gifting culture is the unlikely aspirational hero that is Dogecoin, the meme based Shiba Inus dog touting cryptocurrency. The Shibe community on Reddit recently raised $33,000 to send the Jamaican bobsled team to the Sochi Olympics. This tremendous feat is a testament to the power of people coming together to give whatever small amount they can to make a difference. And it’s just one example of shibes showing their support for the underdog.

Is Reddit's Success The Result Of A Coding 'Happy Accident'? - Forbes

Is Reddit's Success The Result Of A Coding 'Happy Accident'? - Forbes | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

A post Monday by software developer Ian Greenleaf Young, claims thatReddit’s empire is founded on a flawed algorithm. In question is the site’s “Hot” ranking algorithm, one of the most important pieces of code behind the self-proclaimed “front page of the internet.” Greenleaf Young has examined and tested the code and concludes that a simple transposition of terms is responsible for some seriously counterintuitive effects. He, and others, have reported this as a “bug” but Reddit does not seem to be interested in fixing it. Why would this be?
