La Marine néerlandaise achète le nouveau radar 3D Thales NS100 pour le TCD Rotterdam

Source Navy Recognition :

The Netherlands Defence Materiel Organisation (DMO) and Thales have signed a contract for the delivery of a NS100 dual-axis multi-beam surveillance radar. The system will be installed on HNLMS Rotterdam, to replace its 30-year old DA08 radar system. The NS100 will be installed in the second semester of 2017, in line with the ship’s maintenance schedule.

The Royal Netherlands Navy selected Thales’s NS100 system because of its performance and its proven AESA technology. This technology enables a 3D cue to be given to both Goalkeeper Close-In Weapon Systems on the ship.
Furthermore, the selection for this radar has numerous logistic advantages since the Royal Netherlands Navy already operates the latest generation of Thales AESA radars on the majority of its vessels.
The NS100 radar incorporates a Thales IFF mode 5/S subsystem, making the Royal Netherlands Navy one of the first navies in the world to deploy this modern standard.

About NS100
The NS100 is the newest member of Thales’s S-band AESA radar family. It is the first radar world-wide using dual-axis multibeam technology, which significantly enhances situational awareness in a littoral environment. NS100 is a multi-sensor integrated platform: in addition to the S-band radar, the system is designed to include the Scout Mk3 FMCW radar, the IFF mode 5/S interrogator and transponder, an IR camera, AIS and ADS-B. Positioning all sensors at the best topside position optimizes the overall field of view.

The highly modular and scalable NS100 enables a tailor-made sensor for customer specific requirements and operational profiles. Radar performance is increased by adding RX and TX Building Blocks, answering to the need set by a wide range of naval ships and missions. The flexible radar architecture enables through-life introduction of new capabilities.

About Rotterdam class

The Royal Netherlands Navy has 2 vessels of this class: HNLMS Rotterdam and HNLMS Johan de Witt. The most important role for those ships is supporting amphibious operations. The amphibious transport ships of the Royal Netherlands Navy are also known as Landing Platform Docks (LPD). The ships are equipped with a large helicopter deck for helicopter operations and a dock for landing craft.

Thales and Damen Schelde Naval Shipbuilding have signed a contract for the delivery and installation of a SCOUT Mk3 naval surveillance radar. The radar system is to be installed on the Joint Support Ship commissioned by the Netherlands’ Defence Materiel Organisation that is currently under construction by Damen Schelde Naval Shipbuilding.

The Thales SCOUT Mk3 naval surveillance radar was selected because of its unique Low Probability of Intercept feature. The radar is a new product in vast range of Thales naval sensors and this contract constitutes its market introduction. The first sea trials of the new Joint Support Ship with SCOUT Mk3 installed are scheduled for May 2014.

About SCOUT Mk3

Scout Mk3 is the most sophisticated 2D maritime surveillance radar. Advanced Doppler processing ensures excellent clutter suppression and high range resolution. SCOUT Mk3 detects very small objects even in high sea states or in close vicinity to larger objects. Low-level air coverage is provided and its LPI nature enables covert operations.

Scout Mk3 offers automatic detection and tracking, helicopter and UAV approach and guidance, as well as a high availability and low life-cycle costs.

For more than 30 years the Thales SCOUT family of naval surveillance radars has been recognised for its true Low Probability of Intercept (LPI) capability. SCOUT Mk3 is no exception. Use of low output power (<3W) and continuous wave technology enable this key strategic advantage.

Thales Nederland has been contracted by the Polish Ministry of National Defence for the supply, integration, and acceptance of the combat system for the Polish Navy's new patrol vessel ORP Slazak .

Due to become operational in late 2016, Slazak has emerged from the ashes of the Gawron multipurpose corvette programme, which was cancelled in early 2012. However, the first-of-class Gawron vessel - which is substantially complete, at Naval Shipyard Gdynia - is now to be completed as a patrol ship.

Confirming the contract award on 14 March, Thales Nederland said its scope of supply will comprise the TACTICOS combat management system, SMART-S Mk 2 E/F-band surveillance radar, STIR 1.2 EO Mk 2 radar/electro-optical fire control director, MIRADOR electro-optical observation and fire control system, and a Link 11/16 tactical data link system.
