In Search of Yfaine

We didn’t give up hope, though! Dr. Uckelman was struck with the thought that the letters “-in-” in Yfaine could be a misreading of “-m-,” so the name is actually “Yfame,” a variation of “Euphemia,” for which we have an entry in the Dictionary here. We even have a source in Old French from 1296, lining up nicely with our Mystery Name!

Baby Names Daily: Kyro

"My 2 girls stumbled upon the animated movie The Princess Twins of Legendale on Netflix... there is a little boy in it who is in love with Eve and his name is Kyro. I thought it was cute. Now I guess this is just another way to spell Cairo, and you know I love place names."

Clare's insight:

Could also be for Chi-Rho, the first letters in the Greek word christos.  Some medieval gospel books, such as the Lindisfarne Gospels, had highly-decorated Chi-Rho pages.

The impact and finality of the stone struck me for a moment; how one name, carved centuries ago indelibly into rock, has survived and is still seen today. Cornelianus may no longer be used as a given name, but for this particular Cornelianus, his name endures.

Once Upon a Time Baby Names: Branwen vs Bronwen vs Bronwyn & Branwyn

" First things first: a -wyn ending to a name in Welsh means it is a boy name, while a -wen ending means it is a girl name. So if you're looking for a name for your baby girl, whether it be Branwen or Ceridwen or Tanwen, make sure you take this into consideration."
