Naming after women

Naming after women | Name News | Scoop.it
I’d love to know what stories you all have of moms naming their daughters or sons after themselves or similar family stories, and whether you know any Brothers or Priests with female saints’ names, or boys who have taken a female saint’s name for a Confirmation name. It’s not all oppression, people.

Baby name consultant: First baby, a boy–John+[something] or Jude? | Name News | Scoop.it
Cameron’s full name is John Cameron, and his dad’s first name is John as well. Cameron loves the idea of giving his firstborn son the first name John, like he and his dad, and have him go by his middle name. BUT he and Chelsey love Jude Alden. And they can’t figure out a John ___ name they like as much or better.

Pope told parents to name their daughters after Mary?

Pope told parents to name their daughters after Mary? | Name News | Scoop.it
one of my cousins said she thought, in reference to the many Marys in our family of a certain age (mostly born in the 40s, though there are a bunch of older relatives named Mary as well), that the Pope had told parents to name their daughters after Mary.
Clare's insight:

It remains a mystery...but, you know, if the Pope told parents to name their daughters anything, Mary would be the top candidate, wouldn't it?

Au tour de Magali de nous parler de sa jolie fratrie, composée de Philippine, Côme et Augustin. Clare's insight:

Another very handsome group of siblings: big sister Philippine (after grandad Philippe) and twins Côme (the French Cosmo) and Augustin, two beautifully-balanced saintly names.

Prince George Alexander Louis: On the Royal Baby Name

"The oddsmakers were right! London betting houses had George as a favorite for the name of the future king from the beginning, and the royal parents came through."

Clare's insight:

Also: "The name George was completely predictable -- which is completely appropriate. You want your ceremonial monarchy to be predictable. At its best, the monarchy represents heritage, continuity, and the nation's unique spirit."

:-)  Oh Laura, you're making me come over all patriotic.

Solange Has Saintly Origins - Despite That Shocking Jay Z Elevator Video | NameCandy

Solange Has Saintly Origins - Despite That Shocking Jay Z Elevator Video | NameCandy | Name News | Scoop.it

"Beyonce Giselle Knowles-Carter is the one and only --- or, at least the first of her kind, as her mother made up the variation on her maiden name. “My sister Tina [Knowles] didn’t think we had enough boys in the family to keep the [Beyince] name going, so she gave Beyoncé our last name as the first name,” Roland Beyince told the New York Post last year of his 32-year-old niece. Bey and Solange's Beyince grandparents were French-speaking Louisiana Creoles who moved to Texas to raise their family."
