Happy June everybody! A few weeks ago, Mini Boden's Summer catalogs were released, and guess what? The names are back! I am beyond thrilled that we get to continue these posts (because we all know Boden models have the best names).
Clare's insight:

They really do: Emelda, Nieka, Lorenz, Bowdazz, and more here.

S My Name is Sophie: Catalog Names: Mini Boden, October 2014

S My Name is Sophie: Catalog Names: Mini Boden, October 2014 | Name News | Scoop.it
Last week my monthly Boden catalogs came in the mail, and there was good news and bad news. The good news was that there are new models, which means new names to talk about. The bad news? They are no longer listing the names in the women's Boden catalog. Only Mini Boden. That kind of bummed me out, but there were so many great kids names that it made up for it (almost). Let me know what you think.
Clare's insight:

Interesting lists here, with Teddy, Soli, Yasmin, and more.

S My Name is Sophie: Catalog Names: Anthropologie Spring 2014

S My Name is Sophie: Catalog Names: Anthropologie Spring 2014 | Name News | Scoop.it

"Anthropologie is my all time favorite store. I love when their catalog comes in the mail, it's always so beautiful. Many of their Spring clothes have interesting names, so I thought I'd list them here. Tell me what you think."

Clare's insight:

At first I thought these were people's names: although some are exotic (Ciel, Majorelle, Tisana), they're pretty much all believable.  I must admit Lolanthe makes me a bit uncomfortable, as I can't help thinking it's a misreading.

S My Name is Sophie: Catalog Names: Tiny Prints 2014 | Name News | Scoop.it
The Holidays are officially here, which can only mean one thing: a giant influx of mail. I recently got the Tiny Prints catalog, and I looked at the names on the cards right away. Overall they were pretty run-of-the-mill, but I found a few gems (Maxine and Simone--yes, please!).
Clare's insight:

Well, Maxine is one of Abby's names to watch for 2015.  I've met a young Maxine (whose mother is French) and can testify that it works very nicely!

Name Quotes for the Weekend #22 - Nancy's Baby Names

Name Quotes for the Weekend #22 - Nancy's Baby Names | Name News | Scoop.it
"A name doesn't have to be "creative" or "ghetto" to be Black; it just has to be Black long enough."
Clare's insight:

Great snippets on living up to the name Madonna; consulting the Pottery Barn catalogue; racist stereotypes; hipsterist stereotypes; a shade of red; ah I love Call the Midwife; how even not revealing your chosen name isn't dangerproof; and living up to the name Blaze.

S My Name is Sophie: Catalog Names: Boden Summer 2014

S My Name is Sophie: Catalog Names: Boden Summer 2014 | Name News | Scoop.it

"Last week I did a post on the Mini Boden names, but today we are going to talk about the regular Boden. Not only will this list contain the names of models, but also of the fabulously names products."

Clare's insight:

Things get really interesting at the bottom of the list: I wonder whether Ariette, Jerniya and the rest are people or products...my hunch is products but it could go either way.

S My Name is Sophie: Catalog Names: Mini Boden Summer 2014

S My Name is Sophie: Catalog Names: Mini Boden Summer 2014 | Name News | Scoop.it

"The Summer edition of Mini Boden has finally come out, and that only can mean one thing: new names. Hooray! I was really surprised with this season's crop; many of the children's names are ones I consider "mom names." I'm sure they sound normal to people in Britain, but tell me what you think.""

Clare's insight:

This was a welcome reminder that sometimes I get so caught up in the names of the moment, and in American trends, that I forget what's really happening on my doorstep.  Amy, Hannah, Megan, Nicole and Rebecca are all in the top 120 in England and Wales.  They're all on a gentle downward slope, but they're being given to hundreds of girls each year (like the ones in the Boden catalogue!).

Also some lovely boys' names, like Francis and Lindo.

This is an intriguing mix, especially if all the names belong to children: Ellen, Candace, Trish, Brian, Jensen, and more.

"When your my age, you aren't looking at the Mini Boden catalog for the clothes (though those are super cute, and I do enjoy looking at them). You look at the Mini Boden catalog for the names. Hands down the best catalog for name perusal is Mini Boden, and you can see why."

Clare's insight:

What a treat - I do like a good catalogue-browse.  Featuring Martha and Arthur, Cai and Tye, and more.
