Idina Menzel will join forces with The Fred Gabler Helping Hand Camp Fund as part of Cantor Fitzgerald’s annual Charity Day on September 11. The Tony winner will help Cantor Fitzgerald’s brokers complete real telephone trades with customers. The fund, which was established in honor of the late Fred Gabler, a former partner and trader for Cantor Fitzgerald—the company that lost the most lives in the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center—aids in sending underprivileged children to summer sleep-away camps. Menzel’s If/Then co-star LaChanze lost her husband Calvin Gooding in the tragic events; see her moving a cappella rendition of “Amazing Grace” at this spring’s dedication to the 9/11 Memorial Museum here.

The original cast album of the new Broadway musical If/Then (Masterworks Broadway), which stars "Let It Go" singer Idina Menzel and Anthony Rapp, debuted on the Billboard Top 200 chart at #19, the first cast album to do so well in its first week in 18 years.

No one is poisoned or drowned or stabbed inIf/Then, Menzel’s new show which opened on Broadway this week, plus her character is named Elizabeth, the show is set in the present-day New York, and it’s a musical. But that said, you won’t find a more conflicted, more hesitant, more self-doubting, more soliloquy-prone character on a New York stage this season—certainly not one who can belt out a song like this.

In New York City, Broadway stars like Idina Menzel perform a rigorous schedule of eight shows a week and this particular star has consistently had her name on the top of the music charts. If you haven’t heard her name, you have most certainly heard her voice in the highest-grossing animated film of all time, Frozen.

These are the times that try the souls of New York theatre critics and Tony Award nominators. Between this Sunday, when the musical If/Then opens, and April 24, when Cabaret returns to Broadway on the final day of Tony eligibility, there will be a total of 13 Broadway openings, almost one-third of the entire Broadway season (40 shows are expected to be Tony eligible this year).
