The Benefits Of Developing A Workplace Culture Of Health

The Benefits Of Developing A Workplace Culture Of Health | #HR #RRHH Making love and making personal #branding #leadership | Scoop.it
Most of us try to live well, but fall short of our goals. A recent study published in Mayo Clinic Proceedings found less than 3 percent of us have a “healthy lifestyle”—despite the fact that a vast majority of us are on a quest for personal wellness.

But wellness takes a lifestyle change, and time spent at work can either help or hinder. As more companies realize that a happy and healthy employee is better for business, they’re looking for ways to develop a workplace culture of health.

Real-world results show there’s value in workplace wellness—both for employees and the bottom line. Here’s a look at why more and more organizations are being proactive about health and how you can get employees involved.

#HR What is Your Organisation’s Purpose? - People Development Network | #HR #RRHH Making love and making personal #branding #leadership | Scoop.it
If you’re reading this as a commercial enterprise, purpose is not about ditching profit and suddenly getting all causal about things. It’s about putting purpose at the centre of your enterprise, putting it before profit and being purpose-led, because, ironically, companies connected to their purpose end up being 10 – 18 times more profitable than those companies who focus solely on profit itself. The two are inextricably interlinked. And it makes sense. Work is intensely personal. The more we as companies can tap into what our employees care about, the more inspired they will be at work, and the more inspired they are, the more they will contribute to the success of our company. If you add to this the possibilities of also connecting your other stakeholders to your purpose – selecting suppliers who resonate with your purpose, for example, and ensuring that the brand you put out into society reflects your purpose – then a powerful ripple effect is created that sustains itself and is far more effective than a leader trying to gee up the troops from the front.

There’s a lot of talk surrounding organizational culture — what makes it good, what makes it bad. More often than not, organizations just leave their culture up to chance. But that’s definitely not the way to go about it if your desire is to create an engaged workforce and a thriving business.

Culture matters. Just check out these findings from Jobvite and Workforce 2020:

#HR #RRHH How to deal with dinosaurs in the workplace | #HR #RRHH Making love and making personal #branding #leadership | Scoop.it

In my role as a behavioural consultant, many of the business professionals I work with understand the importance – the necessity even – of continued development, change and moving with the times.

However, older or more established team members, whilst often performing well, can often be very resistant to change.

This is a common cause of conflict in the workplace and it does have an impact. People adopt the most common emotion that surrounds them and so this negative behaviour can hold back overall performance.

Navigating workplace dynamics can be tough. You have to make the right decisions and avoid the wrong ones, motivate yourself (and others) to achieve common goals, and make all of this work without ruffling anyone feathers. Tough stuff.

But as I talk about in Invisible Influence, there’s a simple, subtle tool that can help us do all this better: social influence. We think our actions are driven by our own thoughts and preferences, but we’re wrong.

Peers have a huge impact on everything we do, from the day-to-day decisions we make to the careers we follow.
