The results of DESI 2018 are available. The Digital Economy and Society Index (DESI) is a composite index that summarises relevant indicators on Europe’s digital performance and tracks the evolution of EU member states in digital competitiveness.

DESI 2018

Denmark, Sweden, Finland, and the Netherlands have the most advanced digital economies in the EU followed by Luxembourg, Ireland, the UK, Belgium and Estonia. Romania, Greece and Italy have the lowest scores on the DESI.

The Digital Economy and Society Index (DESI) is a composite index that summarises relevant indicatorson Europe’s digital performance and tracks the evolution of EU member states in digital competitiveness.


  • Belgium, the United Kingdom, Estonia, Luxembourg, Ireland, Germany, Lithuania, Spain, Austria, France, Malta, Portugal and the Czech Republic belong to the medium-performance group. They are doing well in certain areas but still need to progress in others.
