Après deux ans de pandémie, les visiteurs sont revenus en nombre en 2022 au Luxembourg Science Center, qui promet une année 2023 riche en innovations.
Après deux ans de pandémie qui ont pesé sur le Luxembourg Science Center (LSC) comme sur tous les musées, l’année 2022 a redonné le sourire à tous ceux qui s’ingénient à transmettre aux enfants et au grand public leur passion pour les sciences : les chiffres dévoilés hier par le directeur général du LSC, Nicolas Didier, s’avèrent en effet particulièrement positifs.
Pas moins de 65 000 visiteurs sont ainsi venus au centre des sciences de Differdange l’an passé, un chiffre qui ne tient pas compte des activités organisées par le LSC telles que le Research Day par exemple et qui drainent aussi un public nombreux. Sandy Heinericy und Nora Kneip sind Lehrerinnen im Zyklus 1 und 2.1. Seit drei Jahren arbeiten sie Teilzeit auch im SciTeach Center. In Zusammenarbeit mit einem Team aus Wissenschaftlerinnen erarbeiten und betreuen sie hier Ifen-Fortbildungen zu naturwissenschaftlichen Themen. Teilnehmende LehrerInnen bekommen die Möglichkeit, sich mit dem forschend- entdeckenden sowie dem schülerzentrierten Lernen vertraut zu machen.
science.lu hat die beiden zu ihrem Science-Hintergrund und ihren Erfahrungen mit „forschend-entdeckendem Lernen“ im Éveil aux Sciences-Unterricht befragt. On Friday 21 September 2018, Luxembourg's government cabinet agreed to the signing of a letter of intent which provides for a significant expansion of the Luxembourg Science Center, making it a flagship institution for the promotion of science at the European level.
The feasibility analysis of this major project is to be entrusted to an Economic Interest Group (EIG), which will involve representatives of the private (Groussgasmaschinn, Arcelor Mittal) and public (government, City of Differdange) sectors.
Located in Differdange, the Luxembourg Science Center offers a multitude of interactive workshops and experimental stations that invite the public, especially children and young people, to discover science and technology and aim to develop their interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). Since opening in October 2017, the centre has already welcomed some 45,000 visitors, including more than 22,000 children and young people for school or extracurricular activities.
From the design phase, the Ministry of National Education, Childhood and Youth was one of the main promoters of the Luxembourg Science Center. Supporting the centre in its mission to educate young people about the jobs of the future required for the 21st century economy, the ministry has invested more than €8 million in the project. Wissenschaft und “Adventure”: Unter diesem Motto lernen die 26 jungen Teilnehmer des Science Camp ihre Umwelt besser kennen. Das Projekt des “natur musée” beweist: Früh übt sich.
Bestimmungsschlüssel, Identifikationsblätter, Lupen, Herbarien, Mikroskope: Trotz der gleißenden Hitze haben sich 26 wissenschaftsbegeisterte Elf- bis 14-Jährige im Jugendzentrum versammelt, um den Biologen in sich zu entdecken. Der verlockenden Muse der Schulferien zum Trotz.
“Insbesondere versuchen wir hier, den Kindern spielerisch wissenschaftliche Methoden näherzubringen, ohne dass sie sich dabei fühlen, als wären sie in der Schule”, erklären die Betreuer Chiara Witry und Manuel Quaring.

Niederschläge flächendeckend zu analysieren ist sehr mühsam. Unterstützt wird das LIST nun durch Schüler, die der Wissenschaft so wertvolle Daten liefern.
„Das könnten wir gar nicht leisten“, sagt Julian Klaus. „Selbst mit zehn Leuten und zehn Autos wäre ein solches Vorhaben äußerst ambitioniert“, fügt er hinzu. Weil dafür aber im Luxembourg Institute of Science (LIST) weder das Personal noch der notwenige Fuhrpark zur Verfügung steht, ist LIST-Forscher Klaus froh, dass es nun eine andere Lösung gibt. Eine Lösung, von der alle Beteiligten profitieren.
Es geht um Niederschlag. Den zu messen und zu analysieren ist für einen Hydrologen im Grunde nicht das eigentliche Problem: Erst wird der Regen in einer Messstation gesammelt, und dann ab damit ins Labor. Schwierig wird es allerdings, wenn man das Wasser, das vom Himmel fällt, flächendeckend sammeln und untersuchen möchte. Und das auch möglichst engmaschig. Dann nämlich benötigt man viele Messstationen. Und viel Personal, um jede dieser Stationen abzufahren.
Die Schüler sammeln Niederschlagswasser und die Forscher untersuchen es
Für Julian Klaus und seine Kollegen gibt es nun personelle Verstärkung. Die Forscher des LIST werden nämlich derzeit von rund 350 Schülern aus elf Schulen in ganz Luxemburg unterstützt. Jeder dieser Schüler wurde mit einem kleinen Trichter und einer Wassersammelflasche ausgestattet und hilft nun den Wissenschaftlern beim Sammeln von Daten.
„Der Ablauf ist folgendermaßen: Wir beobachten das Wetter, und wenn Regen ansteht, geben wir den Schülern zwei Tage vorher Bescheid“, erklärt der Hydrologe. „Die Schüler stellen dann ihre Flaschen mit den Trichtern zu Hause auf und sammeln das Wasser.“ Danach kämen die Proben ins Labor. „Wenn wir zehn Niederschlagsereignisse zusammen haben, suchen wir uns davon dann fünf oder sechs Tage aus, die wir analysieren“, sagt Klaus. LIST RESEARCH FEATURES AT THE 2017 SCIENCE FESTIVAL

From 9 -12 November 2017, the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) participated in the Science Festival at the Abbaye of Neumünster, in Luxembourg city. The Festival was organized by the National Museum of Natural History (MNHN) and the Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR) with the objective of promoting science and technology to the general public and young people.
The first two days of the Festival were reserved for groups of students from primary and secondary schools in Luxembourg, who took part in interactive and educational workshops. During the weekend, the Festival was open to the general public of all ages and everyone, from young children to the young at heart, was invited to take part at the stands activities.
LIST’s scientists presented their latest research projects at three stands at the science festival, through educational workshops and pedagogic activities, with the objective of promoting science among the young children and teenagers as well as to the general public of all ages. Experiment, discuss, discover or just be amazed – that was the slogan of Luxembourg’s 11th Science Festival at the Neumünster Abbey and the Natural History Museum in Grund on November 11-12.
Inviting young and old alike, families, couples or singles, the Festival includes 56 workshops, eight interactive shows and two special exhibitions, representing the multiple disciplines of science.
The first two days of the Festival, on November 9 and 10, were dedicated to schools, with children aged 9-15 years from 267 schools invited to take part in a half day session involving 30-minute workshops in biology, chemistry and physics, and a visit to the main exhibition.

The Fondation Jeunes Scientifiques Luxembourg has announced that three young Luxembourg scietists - Maverick Schmit, Alex Muller and Valentin Ringlet - have won a prize for their 3-D printing project that prints concrete.
From 23 to 29 October 2017, the international pre-university scientific competition MOSTRATEC was held in Novo Hamburgo, in the south of Brazil. Luxembourg was one of the 20 countries represented, with two teams, one of which won a special mention from the jury.
The project "A Modular Concrete 3D Printer" was y three pupils from the Aline Mayrisch Lycée, who designed and created a special 3D printer that prints concrete objects, instead of plastic, the material used by traditional 3D printers. Their goal is to revolutionise the construction industry, by printing entire buildings made of concrete. Their multi-disciplinary project, combining mechanical engineering, electronics, computer science and materials science, has been supported by the University of Luxembourg and Paul Wurth SA, and qualified for MOSTRATEC at the 2017 Jonk Fuerscher National Competition. In the Brazilian contest, it made a strong impression on the public and the jury, which rewarded it with an honourable mention "for outstanding project". L’exposition du Muerbelsmillen s’adresse à un large public, tout en intéressant particulièrement les jeunes visiteurs par le choix des thèmes : la meunerie, l’alimentation, l’artisanat et l’énergie de l’eau. Le moulin peut se visiter individuellement et en groupe avec un médiateur.
Le parcours se compose d’espaces de découverte, d’approfondissement, de documentation et de médiation. La grande roue à eau tournant dans le canal constitue l’expérience de départ. Un panneau explicatif donne des informations succinctes sur l’histoire du lieu. La salle du premier étage où s’effectuait autrefois la mouture conserve les anciennes meules et les engrenages, parfaitement restaurés.
Une projection d’extraits d’archives filmiques montre le fonctionnement du moulin. Le visiteur entre ensuite dans un espace qui lui offre la possibilité d’approfondir ce qu’il a vue dans les salles précédentes à l’aide de panneaux graphiques et de modèles. La salle qui servait autrefois au conditionnement de la moutarde est désormais utilisé pour exposer un certain nombre des pièces originales pour documenter la production et les usages de la moutarde : publicité, emballages, factures etc.
La visite peut ensuite être prolongée par une projection de film ou un atelier pédagogique dans la salle de médiation.

Den Schwerpunkt legt die Forscherin auf die Prävention. Das berichtet die "Fondation jeunes scientifiques Luxembourg" in einer Pressemitteilung.
2015 bereits hatte Hurst eine neue Bakterie entdeckt. Ein Jahr später hatte sie bislang unbekannte antibakterielle Eigenschaften der Kiefer aufgezeigt. Im letzten Jahr dann legte sie nach und isolierte das Molekül, das für diese Eigenschaften verantwortlich ist. L’entreprise de conseil en haute technologie basée aux Pays-Bas annonce l’ouverture d’un bureau au Luxembourg, dans lequel elle espère employer une centaine de personnes d’ici cinq ans.
«TMC propose aux entreprises de haute technologie connaissances et expertise dans divers domaines, de la physique et des logiciels aux nanotechnologies et à la science des données». Voilà comment se définit, via un communiqué de presse, la société fondée en 2000 à Eindhoven, aux Pays-Bas. Depuis, elle dispose de 21 établissements dans 11 pays et emploie plus de 1.200 personnes.
Le dernier établissement en date: celui qu’elle vient d’ouvrir dans la ville de Luxembourg. L’accent dans ce bureau sera mis sur le domaine des technologies de l’information et du numérique. TMC vise un «large éventail de clients dans les services financiers, le secteur public, mais aussi l’industrie luxembourgeoise». Le Luxembourg Science Center appelé à devenir un lieu phare pour la promotion des sciences au niveau européen (21.09.2018)

Le 21 septembre 2018, le conseil de gouvernement a donné son accord à la signature d'une lettre d'intention qui prévoit une expansion significative du Luxembourg Science Center, faisant de celui-ci une institution phare pour la promotion des sciences au niveau européen. L'analyse de faisabilité de ce projet d'envergure sera confiée à un Groupement d'intérêt économique (GIE) qui associera des représentants des secteurs privé (Groussgasmaschinn, Arcelor Mittal) et public (gouvernement, Ville de Differdange).
Implanté à Differdange, le Luxembourg Science Center propose une multitude d'ateliers interactifs et de stations expérimentales qui invitent le public, et tout particulièrement les enfants et les jeunes, à découvrir les sciences et les technologies et qui visent à développer leur intérêt pour les STEM (Sciences, Technologies, Ingénierie et Maths). Depuis son ouverture en octobre 2017, le centre a déjà accueilli quelque 45.000 visiteurs, dont plus de 22.000 enfants et jeunes dans le cadre d'activités scolaires ou parascolaires. Under the Flag of the Digital Skills and Jobs Coalition Luxembourg Invites Microsoft, in collaboration with the Script, EduTec, Makerspace Base1 and SNJ invite all children between the ages of 10 and 18 to come to the Forum Campus Geesseknäppchen on the 3th of July.
There will be a big Minecraft competition where we will have team learn how to code and build the school of their dreams in Minecraft. You can also come and take a selfie at our Minecraft-booth to receive some fun goodies!
Through Minecraft you can build almost everything, which is why we also invite teachers and educators to join us for a free workshop on what Minecraft is and how it can be used inside and outside of a classroom in support of curriculums and learning activities. Fun fact: we will be hosting monthly workshops starting October 2018, so this is the perfect place to learn how to use Minecraft and increase your knowledge. The Researchers’ Days will return for its 6th edition on Friday, 30 November and Saturday, 1 December 2018 at the Rockhal in Esch/Belval. Proposals for workshops and Science Cafés are now being accepted by the Fonds National de la Recherche, deadline to submit is Friday, 13 April 2018.

The Science Festival Luxembourg will be returning with its 11th edition from 9 to 12 November 2017, offering over 50 workshops for science lovers.
Organised by the National Museum of Natural History (MNHN) and the National Research Fund (FNR), the purpose of the annual Science Festival is to present and promote science and research in Luxembourg and to encourage young people and the public to become interested in, experiment with and discuss science and technology.

The Luxembourg Science Week aims to promote Science, scientific activities and the pursuit of scientific studies to the public, with a special emphasis on developing the interest in science of the younger generations.

By highlighting the activities that already occur on a regular basis, and by complementing these by an offer of industry activities the Science Week increases visibility of the existing offer, while reconfirming the country-wide commitment to developing Luxembourg as a hotspot for international as well as homegrown talent in the scientific fields. Après deux ans de pandémie, les visiteurs sont revenus en nombre en 2022 au Luxembourg Science Center, qui promet une année 2023 riche en innovations.
Après deux ans de pandémie qui ont pesé sur le Luxembourg Science Center (LSC) comme sur tous les musées, l’année 2022 a redonné le sourire à tous ceux qui s’ingénient à transmettre aux enfants et au grand public leur passion pour les sciences : les chiffres dévoilés hier par le directeur général du LSC, Nicolas Didier, s’avèrent en effet particulièrement positifs.
Pas moins de 65 000 visiteurs sont ainsi venus au centre des sciences de Differdange l’an passé, un chiffre qui ne tient pas compte des activités organisées par le LSC telles que le Research Day par exemple et qui drainent aussi un public nombreux.
