Cabinet Approves Commercialisation of HIV Self-Diagnosis Tests | #Luxembourg #Health #Santé #Gesundheit #Europe  | Luxembourg (Europe) | Scoop.it

At its meeting on Wednesday, the Luxembourg Cabinet approved the commercialisation of HIV self-diagnosis tests.

On the proposal of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health, Étienne Schneider, the Cabinet has adopted a draft Grand-Ducal Regulation laying down the conditions for carrying out diagnostic-based rapid tests for human immunodeficiency virus infection, viral hepatitis and other sexually transmitted infections.

This text aims to facilitate access to self-diagnosis of HIV. Thanks to these tests, which will soon be available in supermarkets, anyone will be able to carry out a self-diagnosis of a possible HIV infection that goes back more than three months, in all discretion and confidentiality at home in less than half an hour.

Self-diagnostic tests are distinguished from Rapid Diagnostic Tests (RDT) in that they are intended by the manufacturer to be used by private individuals without the intervention of a health professional.
