The Luxembourg-based European Investment Bank (EIB) has been working together with Euroclear, Banco Santander and EY on an end-to-end blockchain solution for the issue and settlement/delivery of Euro-denominated banknotes (ECP).

The proposed blockchain solution will reduce the duration of bilateral processes between the different market players by providing an efficient consolidated platform for ECP issuance on the basis of settlement/delivery against payment by Euroclear, a trusted post-market service provider of the financial sector.

Other key benefits of this joint initiative include total transparency and traceability of the activities related to the issuance of ECP, a reduction of operational costs and considerable gains in terms of time, making the same day emission of ECP a new standard of the market.

55 Hacker arbeiteten zwei Tage lang in der Europäischen Investitionsbank für die Finanzindustrie

Der erste Blockchain-Wettbewerb der Europäischen Investitionsbank (EIB) war ein voller Erfolg. 48 Stunden lang stritten 55 Hacker in zwölf Teams um gute Lösungen für die Finanzindustrie zu finden. Der Gewinner ist das Team EY. Neben einem Scheck von 5.000 Euro erhalten sie auch einen Halbjahresvertrag. Die EIB kann darüber hinaus auch mit weiteren Teams zusammenarbeiten.

Die Teilnehmer des bislang einmaligen Events kamen aus der Ukraine, Mexiko, Spanien Luxemburg, Belgien und Indien. Von Mittwochabend bis Freitagabend programmierten sie. „Die Atmosphäre war sehr kreativ und konzentriert“, findet Blockchain-Experte Frank Roessig, der bei Telindus Startups betreut. Er bezeichnet die Ergebnisse als „hochwertig.“ Die EIB hatte den Blockchain-Challenge parallel zum Bankertag veranstaltet. Die Banker waren dann auch die Mentoren der Teams. Die Veranstaltung war ein solcher Erfolg, dass eine Folgeveranstaltung wahrscheinlich ist.
