I thought about the problem that I helped my client solve and as it is “Back to the Future” day, it kind of seemed appropriate.
My client already had a database, but it was old and built on obselete technology. They wanted me to go into their existing system, “grab all the data” and bring it back into a future proof platform which would stand the test of time.
The client was a “High End Jewellery Broker”, who sold bespoke jewellery to wealthy individuals. The pieces were made by jewellers, who asked my client to sell the pieces on their behalf.
Overview of Problem
The biggest problem that we faced was the fact that the existing database was so old that the client had lost their login details to access all the data. However, using an ethical hacking procedure we were able to access the back end of their existing. system.
Although data extraction was very easy, the challenge was to preserve the existing relationships. Here is a summary of the data and the relationships that had to be maintained in the new database:-
