Some of you may know that most iOS apps have a URL scheme. These URL schemes can be accessed anywhere on your iPhone, so long as you can open a URL. For those of you who don’t know what a URL scheme is, let me explain.

In FileMaker you can encrypt database files by using the Database Encryption feature of FileMaker Pro Advanced ( you cannot encrypt a file using FileMaker Pro, you need the Advanced copy ). Encryption protects FileMaker database files from unauthorized access while the files are being stored on disk. Temporary files that are created by encrypted files are also encrypted.

In FileMaker 14 there is a new icon setting for all buttons and button bars. It enables you to insert an icon ‘into’ the button rather than have a separate image hovering over the button; like many of my own solutions used to. This is pretty cool as you don’t have to mess around aligning images with your buttons! FileMaker ‘inserts’ the icon into the button and it behaves as part of the button text. You can position the icon to the left of any text, or to the right, or just have the icon by itself. They have also given users the ability to specify the colour of this icon in normal, hover, pressed and in focus modes! FileMaker have created a decent amount of icons to play with to cover a range of topics. However, there isn’t quite enough.
At least; not for me (Sam) anyway!

Conditional formatting is a way you can format layout objects to change automatically when they meet specified conditions.
For example, you can use conditional formatting to automatically display balances that are over 30 days past due in bold, red text. Conditional formatting settings affect only the way data is displayed or printed, not how data is stored in the database.
