Assistant editor Jordan Lindblad tracks shots and logs cuts on the move with FileMaker Go for iPhone

FileMaker 'codebook'

When movies were cut together from reels of film, editors and their assistants kept codebooks—extensive databases that contained info about the shots.

"The codebook helped editors keep track of where the footage was, what it contained, and how it could be cut into the movie," says Lindblad.

While movies are now cut on digital editing systems, Lindblad says, "I still keep a codebook, because there are a lot of benefits to being able to quickly find information without having to be on an editing system.

I built my codebook in FileMaker Pro so I have access to it regardless of what editing system I'm on."
