The animations introduced in FM13 are great, but they still don’t let us animate the transition from one layout to another.

This is something we’re looking for as it’s often used in iOS apps to move from list to detail and back again.

However, using full-layout slide panels, we can animate layout transitions as long as we’re careful to get the timings right.

Check how it's done on Seedcode blog and download the unlocked example file.

FileMaker Go 14: Keeping Button Bars and Slide Panels in Sync

FileMaker Go 14: Keeping Button Bars and Slide Panels in Sync | Learning Claris FileMaker | Scoop.it
Someone recently suggested (a blog, at DevCon? Sorry I lost my source on this one.) using the combination of FileMaker 14’s new button bar with a Slide Panel to emulate a tab panel.

Why bother you ask?

Well you get the cool slide animation effect when using Slide Panels. iOS users are increasingly used to the idea of sliding things around on their screen.

Button Bars are cool because they take care of highlighting themselves (with a little help sometimes).

The advantage of using a Button Bar to emulate a Tab Label is that it gives the user more information about where they are on the layout.

The best of both worlds would be a Sliding Tab Bar.

We don’t have that yet, so here is how to emulate one.

... Delight me in surprising ways

A beautiful surface, a carefully-placed animation, or a well-timed sound effect is a joy to experience. Subtle effects contribute to a feeling of effortlessness and a sense that a powerful force is at hand.

...

The slide view control lends itself very well to this.

The whoosh of data, buttons and images from left to right is a really pleasing effect.

This article is going to focus on building a week view calendar that utilizes the slide control to give that slide effect but in a completely endless fashion.

The example is pretty basic but the technique could potentially have many applications.
