Give life to your data with an easy to use database ... I'll share cool FileMaker stuff for you, avoiding the programming part of it as much as I can. #WorkplaceInnovationPlatform #Claris
Learn how to seamlessly integrate Claris FileMaker with Stripe for powerful online invoicing solutions.

Date settings in Europe and in the States, for example, are different.
The specification “01.10.2020” is interpreted in Europe as “October 1st, 2020”, however, in the States as “January 10, 2020.”
In order that FileMaker knows how to understand a date specification, the local information is anchored as a fixed specification in the file when a file is created.
On one hand, this allows an interpretation of the date, but should the file open later on another operating system, FileMaker can match new date entries (between system settings and the information anchored in the file).
This ensures the integrity of various date entries.
While cleaning up my Filemaker Tools folder, I stumbled across a custom function that is a bit older, but is actually too bad not to be described briefly here.I
We demo how to integrate FileMaker with UPS to enhance your shipping needs.
Includes a video and sample file.
UPS not only delivers your packages with quality, but they also offer an API to streamline any shipping needs that you may have for your company or application.
With their API integrated into your software, you can validate addresses, check shipping costs, compare delivery services and rates, print labels, track packages, and much more in one consolidated package.
In this article, we will be covering two highly useful actions: address validation and tracking.
We will demonstrate how you can integrate these actions into your current FileMaker system.
CamelHelp allows you to very simply add in-app help and documentation to all your existing solutions, including images, videos and links to both web pages and your own help texts.
This feature can be added to your files in a couple of minutes.
You only need to add one script and one button to your own solution files, and you're good to go!
You can choose to write documentation for your users, allow power users to create their own help using their own language, or - why not - combine the two approaches.
Didier Daglinckx's insight:
A fast track to provide Help within your FileMaker Pro 19 solutions ...
FileMaker solutions should not look like databases.
My goal is to give developers things that they can easily incorporate into their own solutions to add vibrancy, appeal, and ultimately better user experiences.
Daniel Wood (aka Weetbicks).
Didier Daglinckx's insight:
... three new developer products (from Digital Fusion) — one is an add-on, the other a tool for crafting nicer interfaces, and the third a module for change logging.
All are designed to make both the developers life easier, and provide a nicer experience for your end users, whether they’re sitting at their desks using FileMaker Pro, out in the field using FileMaker Go, or anywhere using FileMaker WebDirect.
So to give you a brief rundown of the three products
Gmail recently (Modification 2019/07/23) changed their API (around resumable uploads), and Jason has updated his example file showing you how to send rich emails from FileMaker using the Gmail API.
This technique uses FileMaker's Insert From URL script step instead of plugins, so it works everywhere in the FileMaker platform, including Cloud, Server, Go, and WebDirect.
To make a long story short, the application is about booking management and all the customer support that goes with it.
In the main interface used by the greater part of users, there’s a portal showing all the interactions with the customers, providers…
There is a lot of different things in there: incoming and outgoing e-mail, sms, notes, internal messages… a lot. Each is also displaying data more that 1 table occurrence away (user, department…)
Because FileMaker portals (and list views) can only represent records, as opposed to a result of a query on various tables (union), we would usually tend to denormalize data and store all these different things in the same table. But with such an amount of data, this would be unimaginable. Not only is the data split accross multiple tables, but also accross multiple files.
As a result, a virtual list is a good option for the UI.
Are you looking for a reusable tool to be integrated with your Claris FileMaker solution that provides an easy-to-use date range chooser pop-up window?
Look no further! Portage Bay has created the Modular Date Range Chooser which can easily be added to your solution, either by copying and pasting the components into your existing solution, or linking the file as an external widget file.
Integrating SignNow with your FileMaker solution makes sending virtual documents an easy task. Includes a video and sample file.
When it comes to sending important legally binding documents, no application does it as well as SignNow.
With over 28 million users in more than 20 different industries using the enterprise-grade eSigning platform, it's no wonder so many businesses rely on it.
This guide will show you how you can begin sending customized documents, as we walk you through this jam-packed tutorial. Integrating SignNow with your FileMaker solution makes sending virtual documents an easy task.
With the release of Claris FileMaker 19.5, there are some new functions related to containers that offer new ways to increase efficiency, accessibility, and utility in app development.
These new functions, CopyLiveText and ReadQRCode, offer the ability to parse out text and read the contents of QR codes.
Using these functions, users can implement image captions and image tagging for searching images, removing the need for complex integration solutions for the same text parsing purpose.
Let's take a look at some quick examples of what you can do with these new functions.
Feel free to follow along with the sample file provided at the end of this article.
In a word processor you can highlight text and then hit a button to change formatting, line BOLD, UNDERLINE, COLOR…etc.
In Filemaker you use the format drop down menus, but does anyone know how to make a button to change the format of the currently highlighted text?
I knew I had done this before but struggled to find the solution where I had done this, so I am making a note here for future reference to myself and others.
When we talk about dialogs we’re actually talking about windows in the FileMaker sense.
They could be a card window, or they could be a regular dialog window, or even a floating window or FileMakers own modal window style.
Modal refers to a window state where the window cannot be dismissed without the user explicitly making a decision that will lead to the closing of that window.
I (Douglas) watched this short video by Angel City Data and was inspired to create my own time picker for FileMaker Go on iOS. Mid-point of the video starting around the 7 minute mark you see the app they developed.
