Learning Claris FileMaker

As well as being able to store your data, FileMaker makes it easy to present your data in various ways.

The way you present your data is called the layout, and in this movie I will introduce you to some basic concepts about layouts.

By changing the layout in FileMaker you can make the information easier to input and easier to understand.

This movie is a basic introduction to the concept of layouts, so this movie is for people who never use FileMaker before.

Following on from the last movie ( http://sco.lt/8L7SSn ;), this movie shows you how to create fields to store your data.

Once you have decided on the design of your database, you can create the fields you need to store your information.

If you make a mistake, you do not need to worry, because you can change fields you have created. 

In this movie I add a new field to my Continuing Education database.

The reason I want to add a new field is so that I can create a field that I can use for tags.

Creating tags, or assigning tags to each record will allow me to search all my records to look for specific tags.

Layouts. Layouts in FileMaker are a way of looking at your database. In this movie I will be looking at some of the basic options for changing your layout and appearance.

You have the option to look at your information in different ways. 

The easiest way to change your layout is to use the buttons to change the view from an individual record view to a table view.

The table view makes your data appear like an Excel spreadsheet.

These different viewing options have different controls over changing the layout.
