As our houses and the devices we use get more aware, the amount of data, which gadgets use to perform a useful service, grows, and the possibilities of what we can do as advertisers and brands expands.

What we're witnessing, aside from a friend showing off his hotly connected new digs, is a demonstration of Apple's HomeKit in action.

Originally announced in 2014, HomeKit is now mature and ready for the mainstream.

And if we're any indication, it's going to flood the holiday gift lists.

  • Home app in iOS 10 offers easy setup, touch controls


Apple wants to streamline home automation.

In other words: it wants to make it easier for smart accessories to communicate, and for you to connect and manage all the smart accessories in your home from various manufacturers (such as Philips Hue lights, Wink lights, and other speakers, thermostats, detectors, plugs, blinds, locks, sensors, etc).

 

HomeKit is basically Apple’s framework for home automation.
