Claris Studio (part 4): Forms the easy way! –

Claris Studio (part 4): Forms the easy way! – | Learning Claris FileMaker | Scoop.it

This article covers more Views, a little errata from past articles (Parts 1, 2, & 3), and where we go from here.

This is the final article of the planned four.

But if something really inspiring materializes, there may be followup article(s).

Some famous "trilogies" (films and books, especially) have gotten additional content, so why not?

 Welcome back!

The Spreadsheet View and the Dashboard View are not the only features of Claris Studio.

I chose them to discuss first because the Spreadsheet has more information about the tables and fields.

That information may be helpful on all Views.

But we have other Views: anonymous Form submission, a List-Detail View (suitable for searching, adding, editing), a Kanban View (just another way to present the data & edit it), and some new ones since the last article.

Today’s release of FileMaker 16 introduces new windowing options, and changes to existing windowing behavior… some of these changes are cross-platform, and one is specific to FileMaker for Windows.

Modal Popovers + Magic Date Value Lists | FileMaker | Learning Claris FileMaker | Scoop.it

Today we’re going to explore a couple ideas that were glossed over in last month’s article on the CustomList custom function…

Multi-State Dynamic Graphic Buttons in FileMaker

Multi-State Dynamic Graphic Buttons in FileMaker | Learning Claris FileMaker | Scoop.it
I had a client request recently to toggle an image button to a second image on mouse over.

This is not typically difficult to accomplish since you can assign one image to the Normal state, and a different image to the Hover state, like so.

Table Of Contents for FileMaker Hacks
December 21, 2019 Kevin Frank

As 2019 draws to a close, I am mildly astonished to note that FileMaker Hacks is now nine years old.

As promised in my recent conversation with Jeremy Brown, and in response to a number of reader requests, here, for the first time, is a comprehensive table of contents (as of December 2019).

While some of these articles have become obsolete, a surprising number of the older ones are still relevant today… a tribute to the continuity of FileMaker and how knowledge gained in one version can remain useful indefinitely.

Another aspect driven home for me during the compilation of this T.O.C. (which entailed revisiting 200+ articles — some of which I’d completely forgotten about) is what a profoundly collaborative effort this blog has been, not only thanks to the illustrious list of guest authors, but also due to the sheer volume of articles that, while written by me, would not have existed without the input, examples and inspiration provided by so many others in our community.

A great resource for the FileMaker Developers ... 200+ articles !

Introduction to FileMaker Popovers

Introduction to FileMaker Popovers | Learning Claris FileMaker | Scoop.it
One of the most useful FileMaker features introduced in the last few years is the popover (if you aren’t familiar with them, Howard Schlossberg’s presentation provides an excellent introduction).

In the standard implementation, you click once to display the popover, and then click anywhere outside the popover to dismiss it.

Exporting Data to iCal, Outlook, Google Calendar, etc.

Exporting Data to iCal, Outlook, Google Calendar, etc. | Learning Claris FileMaker | Scoop.it

Exporting Data to iCal, Outlook, Google Calendar, etc.

The other day I needed to export some appointments from FileMaker to iCal.

I’d never done this before, but I did a bit of reading on Wikipedia and elsewhere, and it turns out to be fairly straight forward.

I don’t claim that what follows is in any way authoritative, just that it works… and not just with iCal, but with Outlook, Google Calendar and any other program that recognizes the iCalendar format.
