ARToolKit is a software library for building Augmented Reality (AR) applications. These are applications that involve the overlay of virtual imagery on the real world. For example, in the image to the right a three-dimensional virtual character appears standing on a real card. It can be seen by the user in the head set display they are wearing. When the user moves the card, the virtual character moves with it and appears attached to the real object.

La réalité augmentée est de plus en plus en vogue. Des lunettes spécifiques seraient à l'étude.

 

La réalité augmentée, (RA) déjà présente sur smartphones et tablettes va s’étendre sur d’autres supports. L’idéal serait sur des interfaces plus adaptées à l’homme, comme par exemple, une paire de lunettes. En effet, grâce à la commercialisation des applications de gadgets marketing construites pour smartphones, la RA a su conquérir les consommateurs. ABI Research prévoit une prochaine vague d’applications de RA encore plus significatives qui comprendra quant à elle l’impression interactive, le shopping mobile, et l'éducation des enfants.

 

Concernant les différentes interfaces, Google projetait de créer un nouveau verre. Mais selon l’analyste Aapo Markkanen il faut tempérer ces attentes. Selon lui, "le problème est que, pour permettre des utilisations attrayantes sur n’importe quelles paires de lunettes il est nécessaire que les lentilles soient à la fois grandes, lumineuses, et esthétiques".

Der Anwender sieht sowohl Einblendungen als auch die vor ihm liegende Realität. Das 30-Gramm schwere Modell nutzt eine Bluetooth-Verbindung. Olympus forscht mindestens schon seit 1992 an solchen Konzepten.

 

Olympus hat eine Brille mit Augmented-Reality-Einblendungen namens MEG4.0. vorgestellt. Wie TechCrunch ermittelt hat und ein Patent belegt, arbeitet das Unternehmen mindestens seit 20 Jahren an dem Konzept, das zuletzt durch Google mit seinem Projekt “Glass” ins Licht der Öffentlichkeit gerückt wurde.

 

Die Olympus-Brille wiegt samt Batterie nur 30 Gramm. Für Einblendungen gibt es eine Auflösung von 320 mal 240 Pixeln (QVGA). Als Kommunikationstechnik dient Bluetooth, außerdem verbaut Olympus einen Beschleunigungssensor.
