Taylor Mali: In My Middle School ~ Teaching Channel

Taylor Mali: In My Middle School ~ Teaching Channel | Into the Driver's Seat | Scoop.it
Listen to Taylor as he describes his perfect middle school.
Jim Lerman's insight:

Mali is perhaps best known for his slam poem "What Teachers Make." One version of it on YouTube has been viewed 4.7 million times (8-22-13). I just encountered this "new" video of his (2011) on the Teaching Channel. He describes, in just 3 minutes, his ideal middle school. Sounds pretty good to me.

A new way to learn: Oconto Middle School opens Bayshore Community Academy | Into the Driver's Seat | Scoop.it

by Kent Tempus

summary by MiddleWeb SmartBrief

"Sixty students in grades 5-7 in Oconto, Wis., will learn most academic subjects through student-led projects as part of a new charter school that opened on a traditional middle-school campus. While math will be taught through traditional instruction in longer, 80-minute blocks, other core subjects -- science, social studies and reading -- will be integrated into projects. "With this, the kids will be able to develop skills without even realizing it at times," teacher Jenny Holmgren said. "
