Study Less, Study Smart: A Longtime Psych Professor Explains How to Study (or Do Any Intellectual Work) Effectively

Study Less, Study Smart: A Longtime Psych Professor Explains How to Study (or Do Any Intellectual Work) Effectively | Into the Driver's Seat | Scoop.it

The unfortunate fact is that few of us ever really come to grips with what it means to study, apart from sitting by oneself with a textbook for hours on end. Despite its obvious inefficiency as a learning method, we’ve all found ourselves doing that kind of “studying” at one time or another. Having taught psychology classes for 40 years, Pierce College professor Marty Lobdell has seen thousands of students laboring, indeed suffering, under similar studying-related assumptions, and in his 8.7-million-times-viewed talk “Study Less, Study Smart,” he sets out to correct them. He has also dispensed his wisdom in a book by the same title.

Free Course - A Teacher's Guide to Creating Common Craft Style Videos | Free Technology for Teachers | Into the Driver's Seat | Scoop.it

For more than a dozen years Common Craft videos have been used by teachers to help students understand topics including digital citizenship, personal finance, and many big technology concepts. One of the things that makes Common Craft videos popular is the clear and concise manner in which information is presented using a whiteboard, simple cutouts, and voice over. That style has become known as the Common Craft style and many teachers including myself have had students make videos using that style. Now Common Craft offers their own free course for teachers who want to make Common Craft style videos in their classrooms.

8 Essential Google Scholar Tips for Teachers

8 Essential Google Scholar Tips for Teachers | Into the Driver's Seat | Scoop.it
Google Scholar crawls the worldwide web for scholarly articles and research so that you don’t have to.

Scholarly Googlebots relentlessly scour the Internet for academic and peer-reviewed resources that fit your topic search and leave you with more time for analysis, writing your thesis and sharing the results with your classes and peers.

Google Scholar is a better resource than just having students Google their topics. We should really help students get in the habit of finding information from sources like this or other paid databases. (Infobase, BadgerLink, Discovery Education)

How Do You Learn to Teach Online? Here are 9 Tips! | Into the Driver's Seat | Scoop.it

"Tips to help online educators plan their first course. With online education, a growing force on the market, more enterprising individuals than ever before are finding themselves inspired to launch an online course of their own. However, for many of these potential educators, the first hurdle is learning how to teach a course."

When people ask me how to get started in online education, I recommend that they begin by taking small steps. Begin by creating a course shell and transferring some of your course content to it. Then, transfer assessments and activities to the course. While still teaching face-to-face, have students begin doing some assignments through the LMS. Slowly, begin to transition from fully face-to-face, to blended, to fully online.

How to Enhance Lessons with Google HyperDocs

How to Enhance Lessons with Google HyperDocs | Into the Driver's Seat | Scoop.it
In the twenty-first century classroom, learning is no longer teacher-directed. Students are beginning to feel more ownership for their learning, allowing them to interact with course material instead of simply trudging through direct instruction and handfuls of physical material.

Google HyperDocs are digital documents that contain all elements of a learning cycle in a central location. Within a single document, students have access to hyperlinks to all resources necessary to complete the activities within that unit of instruction.  The following are ways in which HyperDocs can help enhance your teaching at any educational level

Back in the days when fake news was screaming about aliens visiting our planet or people coming back from death, it was easy to avoid publishers with rubbish information. As a result, even those people who want to avoid all this mess are not successful in spotting fraud.

The situation with the covid-19 is something that anybody expected and none of us was prepared to face. Everyone has a big challenge to work, study and do their daily activities. In terms of education, students and teachers must do their best to keep learning and teachng at least in the 50% because we all know that online classes will never be the same as classroom classes but we cannot stop it, This kind of articles are very usefull for teachers and students since all of us must find out the best ways to keep with our process. We need to use all the plataforms, the apps, and the websites that we can and give them  the best use in order to learn from our professors and their classes. I think that the cahllenge is bigger for teachers and professors because most of them did not have experience with technological devices, online apps nor virtual classes. And for most of them this is difficult but they are doing their best to share their knowledge with us.

Characteristics of Effective Learning Feedback

Characteristics of Effective Learning Feedback | Into the Driver's Seat | Scoop.it
Students work on the feedback provided to them to bring the best out in their performance. However, there can be a possibility that students are getting the right feedback which hinders their growth. Without having the correct feedback it is impossible for students to work on their weak areas. As educators, the feedback provided needs to be of sort that can direct students towards better results.
