Campaign group One, founded by U2 frontman, is calling for a reorganisation of aid spending
Graham Watson's insight:

Really interesting article that highlights the effectiveness or otherwise of aid. It has come to a pretty pass when leading campaigners are arguing for a reduction in the levels of aid, and reorganisation of aid spending so as to better reduce poverty.

The article details the difference between spending by the Department for International Development and the Foreign Office and details projects where the latter appears to have little evidence of poverty reduction, or transparency. All of which makes it a little bit depressing that the government has chosen to merge the two, with the Foreign Office subsuming the Department for International Development.

Shortfall in standards casts doubt on transparency of Britain’s aid spending
Graham Watson's insight:

Proof, if it were needed, that aid isn't the developmental panacea that some claim it to be, with the One Campaign suggesting that the aid given by Britain - particularly by the Department for Business Energy and Industrial Strategy and the Foreign Office - isn't properly targeted.

And we are one of the few countries to meet the UN target of spending 0.7% of GDP on aid annually.
