Guinea-worm disease is the first human parasitic disease targeted for eradication, without the use of medicines or vaccines. From an estimated 3.5 million cases in the mid-1980s, there were only 28 human cases reported from 3 countries in 2018.

The WHO clip highlights the importance of healthcare to development, and the dramatic fall in the number of cases of guinea-worm in the past thirty years.
However, its eradication will have a marked positive impact on the standard of living of some of the poorest members of society.
