US inflation jumps as fuel and housing costs rise

US inflation jumps as fuel and housing costs rise | International Economics: IB Economics | Scoop.it
Inflation was 3.5% in March, a sign that cooling has stalled and interest rate cuts may be delayed.
Graham Watson's insight:

US inflation remains problematically high, and has actually gone up over the last month, driven by fuel and housing costs. As a result, the Fed are likely to be more reluctant to lower interest rates and this has implications for the conduct of monetary policy everywhere.

US inflation pressures stubborn as fuel prices rise

US inflation pressures stubborn as fuel prices rise | International Economics: IB Economics | Scoop.it
The US inflation rate was 3.7% over the 12 months to August, up from 3.2% in July.
Graham Watson's insight:

The latest US inflation data surprisingly ticked up last month, to 3.7% from 3.2% - what we wouldn't give for that - largely as a result of fuel prices rising.

This is interesting, largely because if means that the Federal Reserve might consider another rise in interest rates to purge the economy of inflation.
