This is brilliant - Tunisia has remarkably expensive cars - with second hand cars costing twice the market price in the United States. The reason? Taxes. There are import taxes, consumption taxes and value-added taxes, so that more than 50% of the price of a car is tax - with a second-hand Ford that would cost $3,000 in the US, costing $7,500 in Tunisia.
As a result, a couple of local entrepreneurs came up with an entrepreneurial solutions - making local cars with a fibreglass body - although even then at $13,000 it's not affordable for the average Tunisian.
