When we started working on Scoop.it, we had a lot of questions on why we even needed tools for content curation. Some were questioning the purpose or the effectiveness of curation, others were convinced it was a valuable practice but challenged the need for a tool. "I don't need a tool to tweet links, right?" or what Julia McCoy refers to as Myth #10 in that great post. 

She does a great job debunking 12 misconceptions which are still quite common about content curation but which luckily are starting to die as content curation delivers more and more results and thanks to educational content like hers.

When I first heard of curating content, I thought the same thing. However, I quickly learned that this could not be further from the truth. Curating third party content actually does make you a thought leader for several reasons:

As you can see, curating content does not make you take a backseat. It is an opportunity to build credibility with both your audience and your influencers.

An absolutely significant skill in any research or investigation, for educators and learners in the digital age - the curation of content- with a clear focus or question in mind, the capacity to target a search field, sift through, reflect on and make decisions about the most suitable resource or evidence to use. What a great learning experience.

Nextly is a free web app which allows you to create collections of web pages that can be easily navigated as a tour on any device. 

Via the integrated Add Page feature or the accompanying bookmarklet you can add just about any web page to one of your collections, as well as content coming from Twitter, Facebook or RSS feeds and other social media.

A unique characterizing feature of Nextly is that the content of a collection gets pre-loaded when accessed by a user, making the browsing through elements of the collection quite fast. 

When browsing through a Nextly collection all original web pages are reproduced as they appear on the web, and are rapidly pre-fecthed to provide a faster loading experience.

My comment: Potentially a valuable content curation tool to organize specific sets of articles and distribute them in a format that is effective ad easy to access. It can be used also as an effective new reader and news discovery tool.

I'm going to have to investigate this further to see how practical it REALLY is.  It seems like every week there's something else like this that comes out. 

One thing that occurs to me thought:  I wonder if it would be possible to use this or tools like it, to create sellable content...some new type of curated content ebook?

Have not tried it yet thanks to Robin Good for the heads-up will give it a go, anyone using WP tried it?

I'm rescooping this for three reasons. First, the term "curation" is fairly new to me and it is nice to see how different forms it can take. Secondly, I read so many blogposts entitled "10 tools for this" or "35 reasons for that". It is nice too see one of those where all of the 6 tools are actually great. Third, the fact that I actually have experience with three of the six tools makes me feel good. So enjoy :)

Excellent article. Worth a read to clarify the importance of content curation. 

Interesting looking tool. In Beta so it will only get better. UI is a bit ugly but that's not a deal breaker.

Wow, this is what I've been thinking I should have my independent study kids doing!

SCOOPS --  I began using Scoop when I was defining myself a LITE FEET DANCER.  There was no single source of info about Lite Feet dance, a NYC Born Battle dance phenom and YouTube Sensation.  I created LITE FEET SCOOP TO reference for my own resume but also to provide anyone interested a link to the multitude of YOUTUBE Channels, Sound Cloud and personal sites dedicated to this unique art form and the talented dancers who participate. 

Scoop.it helps with the process of curating content. This is a must for your social media.
