Three Tips to Get More Out of Webinars | Free Technology for Teachers

Three Tips to Get More Out of Webinars | Free Technology for Teachers | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it

Back in 2007 or 2008 I watched a professional development webinar for the first time. I can't remember exactly what the webinar was about (it was something about Second Life), but I do remember thinking that I didn't get "it." After that I watched bunch of free webinars about all kinds of things because that's what I thought I should do to be a modern teacher staying current in his practice. Finally, in late 2011 I paid to join a webinar and something weird happened, I got a lot more out of the experience. Since then almost every webinar I've attended, both free and paid, has been a good learning experience. Here's what I figured out about learning from webinars.

Don't Reinvent the Wheel: Digital Literacy Resources

Don't Reinvent the Wheel: Digital Literacy Resources | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it
Libraries know digital literacy; they’ve been the go-to resource for their communities for years. Yet the need continues to grow as the demand for basic skills intensifies and new skills emerge. Whether supporting job hunters, students, older adults, or anyone seeking new technology knowledge, trainers in libraries are using curricula, resources, and tools to help people in their communities advance their digital proficiency. In this webinar, Digital Literacy: Libraries Respond to Community Needs, presenters shared practical ways for all libraries to address digital literacy programming and training—from classroom settings, drop-in classes, or responding to patron needs on the fly. A key theme with the three presenters was, â€Ĺ“Don’t reinvent the wheel”, and that

What works about the webinar for learning? - Saffron Interactive

What works about the webinar for learning? - Saffron Interactive | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it

Webinar is probably my favourite portmanteau (web + seminar). And that’s saying something, because I genuinely believe that ‘spork’ is one of the finest words (spoon + fork) to ever come into existence. But then again, webinars and sporks aren’t so different, when you think about it. I know what you’re thinking, I heard myself too. But let’s try and justify that seemingly ill-founded analogy. Stand back everyone, I’m going to attempt logic.

I only just picked up on a useful series of webinars involving the copyright literacy people (Chris Morrison and Jane Secker) and hosted by the Association of Learning Technology. The theme is Copyright and online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic, and they cover a lot of useful information about resources, actions and reactions of key bodies such as the Copyright Licensing Agency, publishers allowing more access etc.
Elizabeth E Charles's insight:

A great series of webinars with information professionals discussing and interpreting the new normal re free access to digital content and relaxation of copyright.

Webinars are frequently named as a top tactic for lead generation, and we’re not going to argue here at streamGo. But once you’ve decided that webinars are right for you, there’s some work to do to decide the topic, title, date, design and to drive registrations (that’s a shortened list).

In previous roles I’ve been involved with every stage of running a webinar program and now I’m working at streamGo I see how our clients get the most from their online events on a daily basis. So I thought I’d share some of the best free tools I've used and seen to help you plan, create and promote your webinar (or webcast).
