Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path

We'll reach a new state of web skills when we reinvent technology tools to better enhance our personal learning. We'll be at 3.0 when schools are everywhere and not viewed as daycare.

The rate of change is moving in such a speedy pace and sooner or later we will be dealing with  totally new paradigms in education; ones that are deeply grounded in information economy and collective "wisdom  of the mobs". These new changes are mainly driven by the digital culture we and our students have come to embrace, a culture that is predicated on participation, collaboration ,  distribution of knowledge sources, and co-creation of new resources and opportunities. But are we really doing what it takes to prepare our students for this paradigmatic change or what some scholars prefer to dub " Web 3.0 Learning " ?

We have been educated in a 1.0 education model, we are teaching in a 2.0 model but our students are living in a 3.0 model. These three models chronicle the major paradigmatic shifts that education has witnessed over the last century. They also represent, in an ironical way, the huge abyss between the actual needs of our students and what is actually being delivered to them in schools.

What will educators do in the future? How will they work with students in the coming years? Will the role of the classroom teacher change? Certainly, people's perceptions of education seem to be changing. Some experts are predicting that the time of the traditional classroom is coming to an end. They suggest that the future of education will see learning located in any place, with technology mediating all forms of communication. Others argue that schools will always be needed, especially to maintain the social context of education. Many are undecided and hope that life will continue much as it has in the past. Change is often unwelcome, and disruption is feared by many teachers.
