Study Less, Study Smart: A Longtime Psych Professor Explains How to Study (or Do Any Intellectual Work) Effectively

Study Less, Study Smart: A Longtime Psych Professor Explains How to Study (or Do Any Intellectual Work) Effectively | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it

The unfortunate fact is that few of us ever really come to grips with what it means to study, apart from sitting by oneself with a textbook for hours on end. Despite its obvious inefficiency as a learning method, we’ve all found ourselves doing that kind of “studying” at one time or another. Having taught psychology classes for 40 years, Pierce College professor Marty Lobdell has seen thousands of students laboring, indeed suffering, under similar studying-related assumptions, and in his 8.7-million-times-viewed talk “Study Less, Study Smart,” he sets out to correct them. He has also dispensed his wisdom in a book by the same title.

How To Apply Reflective Practice when Teaching Online

How To Apply Reflective Practice when Teaching Online | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it
With online teaching, the only person to blame is yourself. That is what being objective means in this industry. An objective and reflective practitioner blames only himself or herself. If there is a problem, you need to consider ways to avoid it in the future by changing what you do and say, as well as how you act.

How To Be a Better Listener

How To Be a Better Listener | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it
“Most people do not listen with the intent to understand; they listen with the intent to reply.” — Stephen Covey

Listening is a skill and you can get better with practice.

But why get better at listening?

Skilled listening can help you connect with others, learn faster, win friends, and influence people.
Marisol Espinoza's curator insight, April 2, 2016 10:20 PM
This article came in handy for sure because I have always thought as myself as a good listener, but what made me a good listener? Turns out I could be a better listen just from simple tools from this article provided. Source wasn't bias at all, just gave you the facts on how to become a better listener because everybody wants to be heard, but yet no one ever wants to listen. I was always better at listening and not speaking I never liked to talk. My boyfriend on the other hand is the complete opposite as me. He talks non stop, but listening is not his strong side. Everyone can talk, but very few can actually listen. Being able to be a good listener you can actually connect with people more and start learning about others, even though they are talking about something that may not interest you they still deserve your attention just like you would like their attention. This article was very well thought out and I love how they gave you different sections in the article to help you connect with yourself as to if you are a good listener and if you're not it explained how you can improve.
