Know your own strength | Learning with 'e's

Know your own strength | Learning with 'e's | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it
I broke a rowing machine yesterday at the gym. I don't know my own strength. Ironically, that's the very reason I attend the gym regularly. I want to know my own strength. I want to know what my limits are, and then try to exceed them. Apart from breaking the rowing machine, my fitness regime is going swimmingly (without the swimming, obvs). I have learnt a lot. I know about cross trainers, treadmills and weights. I thought a Dip Assist was someone telling me where to stick my Doritos*, until I discovered the weights area. And it was while I was working out at the gym this morning that this thought came to me: To know your own strengths, it's often wise to compete against yourself rather than anyone else.

Helping educational organisations to go digital - JRC Science Hub - European Commission

Helping educational organisations to go digital - JRC Science Hub - European Commission | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it
The JRC has designed the first pan-European conceptual model to help educational organisations self-assess the use and integration of digital technologies and resources in the learning process. The framework also supports policymakers in devising policies for their effective deployment at regional, national and European level. This work supports the European Commission’s objectives to improve digital skills and learning and the initiative Opening up Education which aims to stimulate ways of learning and teaching through digital technologies and digital content.

Making sense of the 8 Elements of Digital Literacy

Making sense of the 8 Elements of Digital Literacy | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it
Over the past few months the Pride Project Team have been exploring how we might make use of Doug Belshaw’s framework for understanding digital literacies (outlined in his book The Essential Elements of Digital Literacies and in his Ed.D thesis). Following the excellent work undertaken by our researchers Jo and Charlotte in mapping the discipline-specific statements of graduate skills, attributes and practices to the 8 elements outlined in Doug’s book, we are now beginning to delve deeper into what these elements might mean for students at the University of Bath. One output from this work will be the creation of a diagnostic skills survey where students are able to self-assess their digital literacies and be given guidance as to the options and pathways available to them to develop their skills, attributes and practices.

How to Assess Your Own Learning - InformED

How to Assess Your Own Learning - InformED | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it
Most of us assume it’s up to someone else—a teacher, administrator, employer—to measure how much we’ve learned. But when we do this, we lose something very valuable: our own educational narrative. We may remember which subjects we excelled in and which subjects we failed, or recall when and where we learned particular bits of information,... Read More

Strategies for Peer & Self Assessment for Easier Feedback | Tech Learning

Strategies for Peer & Self Assessment for Easier Feedback | Tech Learning | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it

It’s a truth for many educators--or has been at some point in our careers. Whether we’re looking at grading, assessment, or feedback, it’s challenging to respond effectively to student work. It’s even harder to do so consistently, in a timely manner, and without letting the work take over.

In my first few years teaching, I would have to reserve a day or two of my weekend to evaluate a few class sets of student essays. Projects, paragraphs, and any assignment that required feedback often became the focal point of my week, and too often I was looking backwards instead of forwards. I had to learn to find balance and to deliver feedback and grades more effectively so that the process takes less time and energy from me and gives more meaning to students--something I still struggle with.
