I am a tech innovator, and my students are just like those kids in the Microsoft commercial—you know the one starring the rapping teacher in the bright blue vest with perfect hair, in the classroom where everyone looks happy and enthusiasm is exploding. Digital transformation: Why learning needs to catch up

Digital transformation: Why learning needs to catch up | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it
What was the first thing you did this morning? For me, it was being woke up by an alarm that I’d set via Alexa. I told her to snooze whilst I caught up on the news on the BBC app. My Google calendar reminded me that my youngest had swimming.

I arranged lifts for the kids to their after-school clubs on Whatsapp, did 10 minutes of Duolingo (learning useful Spanish phrases such as ‘my turkey eats pineapples’) and had a quick check of my emails – all before I’d even got out of bed. And on a device that fits in my pocket! Could we even have imagined this 10 or 15 years ago?

From Good Intentions to Real Outcomes - Connected Learning Alliance | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it

The growth of online communication, media, and gaming is driving dramatic changes in how we learn. Responding to these shifts, new forms of technology-enhanced learning and instruction, such as personalized learning, open online courses, educational games and apps, and tools for learning analytics, are garnering significant public attention and private investment. These technologies hold tremendous promise for improving learning experiences and outcomes. Lecture Capture – Sometimes it’s better to be heard…and not seen | ALT Online Newsletter | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it

In my work as an educational technologist in Higher Education (and with academic/teaching experience in HE) I am more frequently receiving queries and requests from teaching staff who want to make a video of their lecture so it can be available to their students on their module site in the institutional VLE.

Donna Farren's curator insight, November 4, 2014 4:14 PM

Great point about video not being always necessary!  Just watching someone talk is BORING!  Plus if it is just audio - downloading it becomes portable and now you are not tied to a screen.  I can listen in my car, on my walk, washing dishes...  Yes, maybe I need to listen and take notes, but sometimes a general overview of the content is nice too.
