Helping future generations remember and relearn the science, history, art, and literature of the past could be the way back to a future without computers or digital information. This column is a longer version of a talk I gave at the annual meeting of the Society of American Archivists in August 2018. The panel was titled, “Dinosaur Footprints: Archiving and Preservation in the Anthropocene,” and it explored how human civilization’s impact on the environment may affect our professional behavior and culture in the short term and long term.
