CommonLit: An Online Library of Free Texts | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it
We want our students to be able to read challenging texts. That’s a given. We want them to learn to analyze, paraphrase, and infer. We want them to support their points with textual evidence. And we have a pretty good idea of how to teach them to do these things.

Drawing the Blueprint As We Build: Setting Up a Library-based Copyright and Permissions Service for MOOCs

Drawing the Blueprint As We Build: Setting Up a Library-based Copyright and Permissions Service for MOOCs | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it
D-Lib Magazine

The rapid growth of Massively Open Online Courses (MOOCs) in higher education has raised the question of what services libraries on campus can, and should, provide for these courses. One area in which librarians are frequently the source of advice and assistance is in providing copyright education and obtaining permissions to use copyrighted material, and there is now a pressing need to address those areas for MOOCs. This article describes the creation of a copyright and permissions service for MOOC instructors within the Duke University Libraries. Although the service has not been free of difficulties, and its success in actually obtaining permission for desired uses has been uneven, overall the response from faculty has been positive, and the libraries believe that this service is a fruitful and sensible way for them to support the MOOC phenomenon.

E-Learning community integration with web services (pdf)

Economies of scale achieved with E-Learning content reusability and
cost advantages for online education make up for resource intensive up-front
investments for E-Learning content and technical infrastructures. Virtual E-Learning communities reduce tutoring and mentoring costs, increase learner satisfaction, and enable social and mutual learner support. Unfortunately, due to the early stage of several online university projects at least in Germany, relatively small numbers of subscribed students limit size and value of the virtual E-Learning communities and hence reduce E-Learning tutoring and mentoring cost advantages. The versatile Impuls EC portal applications facilitate the integration of different E-Learning communities from different online universities around identical or similar E-Learning courses.1 Web Services enable the seamless integration of communication and collaboration application provided by Impuls EC
and applied by different online universities to trigger and form sustainable E-Learning communities. Potential benefits are increasing learner self support and more efficient tutoring and mentoring to reduce education costs.

5 Methods Of Delivering Mobile Learning Content

Like related learning trends, including 1:1 schools, game-based learning, and personalized learning, mobile learning is one of the least well-understand movements in education.

Part of that confusion likely stems from trying to understand how this new approach to learning relates to existing avenues. One of mobile learning’s defining characteristics is its methods of delivering–or enabling access of–content. Whether that content is authentic or academic, self-directed or teacher-sourced, understanding the various ways mobile content can be delivered in and out of the classroom is one of the first steps in making sense of it as a learning trend.
