Wakelet Now Lets You Copy and Build Upon Collections | Free Technology for Teachers | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it

Wakelet is free bookmarking and note-taking service that I've been using since April when I started looking for alternatives to Padlet. On Wakelet you can create collection and sub-collections of notes, bookmarks, and pictures. You can add those materials to your Wakelet collections through a browser extension or by adding them directly to your collection on the Wakelet website.

Announcing Unpaywall: unlocking #openaccess versions of paywalled research articles as you browse

Announcing Unpaywall: unlocking #openaccess versions of paywalled research articles as you browse | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it
Today marks the official launch of Unpaywall, a web browser extension that links users directly to free full-text versions of research articles. Heather Piwowar and Jason Priem of Impactstory, the team behind Unpaywall, report on the successful pre-release phase, and explain how two decades of investment, a slew of new tools, and a flurry of new government mandates have helped build a powerful momentum behind green open access.

Today we’re launching a new tool to help people read research literature, instead of getting stuck behind paywalls. It’s an extension for Chrome and Firefox that links you to free full-text as you browse research articles. Hit a paywall? No problem: click the green tab and read it free!

The SurfSafe Browser Extension Will Save You From Fake Photos

The SurfSafe Browser Extension Will Save You From Fake Photos | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it
WHEN MICHAEL BENNETT played for the Seattle Seahawks, he celebrated wins with a victory dance in the team locker room. He did not celebrate them by burning the American flag, contrary to a viral Photoshopped picture that began making the rounds online in September of 2017. If you'd read the fact-checks on sites like Snopes.com, Time, and yep, even WIRED, you would have known that the photo of Bennett burning a flag, his teammates and coach looking on joyfully, was fake.
