In my organisation I lead on providing CPD for a small team and providing meaningful, cost-effective opportunities for learning and gaining know how at a micro scale can be challenging.  We’ve taken part in open online courses like Blended Learning Essentials and 23 things, we have a regular ‘show & tell’ slot at weekly team meetings, we take part in events and the networks we support and we sometimes have guests who share their work with us.

In the six years since I became the chief executive of the Association for Learning Technology (ALT) I’ve seen how technology is used across all sectors of education and in all parts of the UK.

Representing thousands of professionals from senior managers to academics and technologists – from hundreds of institutions, education providers, technology companies, and sector organisations – gives me a unique perspective. This year the trustees of the association have invited me to share that perspective and my vision for what the future of learning technology holds for us at our 25th annual conference.

Researching alternative ways of measuring impact in Learning Technology – Maren Deepwell

Last year I worked on finding a sustainable new home for the Open Access journal Research in Learning Technology. As part of my work for ALT, this was the third transition I have worked on since 2008 and during this period I have contributed to the thinking around Open Access publishing in Learning Technology, often through ALT’s contribution to initiatives such as the 2012/3 ‘Gold Open Access Project‘. This year I will be working with a new group set up by ALT to steer the future development of the journal:
