#OpenBlog19 What's wrong with education? | Sue Beckingham: My Learning Journey | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it

The #OpenBlog19 challenge created by David Hopkins is sparking a series of posts where educators go on to challenge others to write a blog in answer to a given question. Steve Wheeler challenged me to write about 'What's wrong with education'.

My initial thought was that I would have much preferred talikng about what is good with education! There are so many good examples I'd love to share from the many educators I connect with online through Twitter, that have openly shared with others how they engage their students, how they co-learn togeher, how they experiment with innovative and creative approaches using Lego, social media, digital technology, post-its, role play and so much more.

How to create lists in Twitter to organise those you follow into groups

How to create lists in Twitter to organise those you follow into groups | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it
Creating lists is a way to filter the tweets you read into topics.  Currently when you view your timeline you will see Tweets from everyone you follow, along with retweets. Wouldn't it be nice to zoom in on Tweets from specific users? Creating lists can help you do this. It's a bit like creating folders…

Different ways to engage in a Twitter conversation

Different ways to engage in a Twitter conversation | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it
From time to time it can be useful to keep an ongoing Twitter conversation together. This can be done by replying to a tweet.  Whilst you can also interact through a tweet by mentioning individuals or by adding a comment as a nested retweet, these do not allow you to develop a threaded conversation where the tweets of all those involved in the conversation are kept together.

The new way to curate social media posts and create stories using @wakelet

The new way to curate social media posts and create stories using @wakelet | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it
For many social media curators the impending end of free and open Storify, used extensively to create stories in the form of collections of tweets and other social media clips, was a huge blow. These stories saved and shared as one URL have provided numerous educators and their students and opportunity to save information collected in one space.

Capturing those golden nuggets of information: the art of digital curation

Capturing those golden nuggets of information: the art of digital curation | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it
I always used to save items of interest that I happened upon online as favourites. However despite creating folders, in using this system I found retrieving something became harder and harder and I was not always able to find what I was looking for. Add the fact that I tend to use commuting time to and from work to access information via my phone, I was initially sending items by email, to then have to add them as favourites once I got back to my desk top.
